You’ll be dazzled by Showpo’s amazing colour changing dress
You'll have to see it to believe it. Watch the video here.
If you haven't already heard of Showpo, you need too. For years, the retail pioneer has been changing the way young women dress by making trending fashion accessible and relatable.
And just this week Showpo has again proved why it's at the forefront of Australian retail. CEO Jane Lu took to Facebook Live on Wednesday to show off an amazing colour-changing dress.
That right, Showpo has created a dress that literally changes colour at the touch of a button (or iPad). The dress first appears as pale, washed-out blue colour but a moment later it's turned pink and then bright blue and then purple - with no optical illusions. Yes, really.
It’s not magic as far as we can tell. Here's what appears to be going on. The dress is made from special fabric that can reflect different light frequencies. The fabric is linked to a device, in this case an iPad, which can communicate with the fabric and changes which frequency of light the fabric reflects . As seen in the video, a Showpo engineer taps a colour wheel on an iPad to change which frequency of light is reflected, thus the colour changes. And voila, you've got one dress that can be as many different colours as you like.
The video on Facebook was appropriately captioned: "We're taking fashion to the next level." The possibilities this kind of technology creates are mind boggling and is positioning Showpo as not just a fashion forward retail destination but as a serious innovator in the realm of tech.
Kelly McCarren of Showpo spoke to us and revealed why Showpo chose to go after a project like this. "Jane has always wanted to be innovative and ahead of the game when it comes to technology. She doesn't compete in the market, she dominates!" she said.
Since this innovation could potentially end the age old dilemma - do I get this dress in the red or the pink? - we're dying to see where Showpo will take technology and when we could see a dress like this becoming available for purchase.
If you want to see more from Showpo, you can head to the site or you can check out the Showpo sales page for information on current promotions and sales.
UPDATE: We've found out the secret to the amazing colour changing dress. There isn't one. It doesn't actually exist yet. You can read more about the Showpo stunt here.
