How you can shop on Instagram without ever leaving the app
Plus, see which of your favourite fashion and beauty brands are on board with the change.
Instagram has quickly become one of the most popular apps of all time. Far from being just a photo-sharing app, the 'gram is a social platform, inspiration hub and advertising ground all rolled into one. And now it's combined two of those elements to evolve again into something else: a shopping site.
Hands up those of us who use the old IG as something of a fashion mood board, drawing inspiration from popular Instagrammers and our favourite stores alike. Pretty much all of us? Okay, great. Instagram knows this, which is why the app announced a new feature that will allow users to shop and checkout directly from its platform.
It works like this: when you tap a product you can shop on the Instagram app, you'll be given the option to "Check out on Instagram". Once you've completed your first purchase, including entering your shipping and payment details, Instagram will then securely store all your information on the app to make your next purchase an absolute breeze.
Retailers who have already jumped at the opportunity to be included in this new shopping experience include a number of your favourites. Anastasia Beverly Hills, Dior, Prada, Huda Beauty, Nars, MAC Cosmetics, Ouai, H&M, Zara, Burberry, Balmain and Uniqlo are just some of the names that are already on board. Kylie Cosmetics and KKW Beauty will also allow you to place orders directly on Instagram, which makes total sense given that the Kardashians are big fans of the app.
The whole in-app checkout process is an attempt to help you shop your favourite items easily, without having to constantly click out of the app to make a purchase. Of course, there are other benefits for Instagram too. The platform will receive a small percentage of each sale for facilitating the purchase. If you're worried about how safe your transactions will be, you don't have to worry. The 'gram is partnering up with PayPal to keep all your information as secure as possible.
When can you use the new feature?
The new feature was rolled out yesterday, but it's only available to those in the US while it's in its testing phase. We can see it being pretty successful though, so hopefully we won't have to wait long to have one more excuse to shop our favourite stores.
