The Shiden Network is a smart contract network developed within the Kusama layer-0 network. Working as a canary network for Polkadot, Kusama acts as an experimental layer-0 network for projects to test smart contract capability. Within that framework, the Shiden Network is designed as the experimental version of Astar (formally Plasm), which is Shiden Network’s equivalent within the Polkadot ecosystem.
According to the project’s website, Astar is focused on offering scalable and interoperable smart contract capabilities to the Polkadot developers. With the smart contract capabilities offered, Aster and the Shiden Network hope to facilitate the next wave of Web 3.0 decentralised applications (dApps) within the industry. The Shiden Network can be used as a testing ground for all dApps developers that are looking to launch an application within the Polkadot ecosystem. Shiden supports Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility, WebAssembly, and layer-2 solutions so that dApps can remain scalable. In addition to smart contracts, the Shiden Network is also multi-chain and can interact with Ethereum, Cosmos, and the Secret Network.
SDN is the native utility token of the Shiden Network. The SDN token can be staked within dApps for block rewards, staked within validator nodes that support the network, and is required for all smart contract transactions that are processed. The token is also used for on-chain governance, whereby token holders are eligible to vote on the future development of the project.
