Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It is being rebooted on Netflix

The film that kick-started Spike Lee's career is returning to the streaming screen.

Renowned filmmaker Spike Lee made his directorial debut way back in 1986 with his comedy-drama film She's Gotta Have It, and thanks to Netflix the acclaimed story is making its return in the form of a ten-episode series updated for the modern era.

Starring newcomer DeWanda Wise as the sassy Nola Darling, the rebooted She's Gotta Have It is set in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Fort Greene, a community bursting with creativity but also under threat of losing its identity thanks to ongoing gentrification.

Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee serve as creators and executive producers of the series through their 40 Acres production company. Alongside DeWanda Wise, the series stars Lyriq Bent, Cleo Anthony, Margot Bingham and Anthony Ramos.

She's Gotta Have It hits Netflix in its entirety on 23 November.
