ShareRing is a digital identity platform built on the ShareLedger blockchain. Founded in 2018, the Australian startup provides users with the ability to store documentation related to their digital identity. Key documents can include passports, driver’s licences, national ID cards, and more recently, COVID test results and vaccination certificates. According to the whitepaper, the project intends to create a space for users to securely access any documentation that may be required for the purchase of goods and services worldwide. For example, individuals can use their ShareRing ID to prove COVID-19 vaccination dates, apply for a travel visa, rent a house or apartment, apply for jobs, order groceries, and even open bank accounts. The ShareRing network can read and verify over 1,500 identity documents from over 190 countries and businesses. ShareRing ID is a self-sovereign platform, which means personal data is stored on a local personal device rather than on the ShareLedger blockchain. This provides far greater privacy over personal information. Personal information is not stored in a central database and cannot be accessed by third parties. ShareToken, or SHR, is the utility token of the ShareRing ecosystem. All transactions that take place of the ShareRing blockchain require SHR.
