Can I get cover if I want to work overseas?

Yes! All three insurers can provide you with cover if you're planning on working overseas. However, not all work is covered. Below is a general outline of what is covered.

1 cover

As long the work is it not labour related work and there is no safety or heavy equipment involved, 1Cover will provide you with cover.

Southern Cross Travel Insurance

While the TravelCare policy is generally designed for those who are travelling for pleasure you can get cover for work overseas, this includes cover for:

  • business meetings
  • business training courses
  • conferences
  • trade fairs.

All this is covered on the proviso that you do not engage in any manual work or manual activities.

Travel Insurance Direct

TID provide cover for those who are setting off overseas to broaden their work experience. In fact, if you're planning on working overseas, Travel Insurance Direct offer one of the more comprehensive policies on the market. Work covered includes:

  • administration
  • clerical
  • gym instructor
  • retail
  • teaching
  • working on a cruise ship
  • yoga teacher

This is not a complete list of the occupations covered by TID. Travel Insurance Direct also provide cover for riskier jobs (although you will need to provide additional information) including:

  • manual work
  • working with animals
  • working as a SCUBA, snowboard or ski instructor.
