Matildas

Sam Kerr's brilliance saw the Matildas win the first of their two matches against Chile.

Superstar forward Sam Kerr netted two goals to steer the Matildas to a 2-1 victory over Chile. Kerr continues to stake her claim to be recognised as the best female football player in the world.

Kerr's brace on Saturday saw her move past Cheryl Salisbury to third on the Matildas all-time goal list. The form of Kerr is ridiculous and she has now scored 40 goals from her last 40 games, split across both club and country.

If she can keep this up then it won't be too long before she tops the charts as the all-time leading scorer. It's no wonder Kerr has decided to leave the W-League and head to Europe to challenge for the Ballon d'Or.

Record Matildas crowd

The Matildas played in front of their biggest ever crowd in Australia as 20,029 packed into Bankwest Stadium. The record crowd capped off a historic week for the Matildas after a new pay deal was announced that will see them receive the same pay as the Socceroos.

In the side's first appearance since the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, the Matildas started strong. Though the mood almost turned sour when a late Chile goal left the Matildas grappling to hold out a Chilean equaliser.

Manager Ante Milicic wasn't very pleased with the performance. He has demanded a better showing for the next game on 12 November, urging the Matildas to play for all 90 minutes.

When is the Matildas' next match?

The Matildas play Chile again on Tuesday in Adelaide. This time there won't be as many in attendance as Coopers Stadium will host the match and only has a capacity of 16,500.

So hopefully instead this time the Matildas will play in front of a sold-out stadium.
