Qantas Airways: Sydney-Osaka

When does it launch? December 2017
How often does it fly? Three times weekly
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? No competitors operate direct flights on this route.
Anything else I need to know? Flights will operate Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. This is a winter route only and will run until 24 March 2018. Discounted fares start at $699 return.


tigerair Taiwan: Taipei-Wuxi

When does it launch? September 2017
How often does it fly? Three times weekly
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? China Airlines operate four weekly flights on this route.
Anything else I need to know? China Airlines will place its CI code on this route, allowing the airline to offer daily service to Wuxi.


Qantas Airways: Adelaide and Melbourne-Kangaroo Island

When does it launch? December 2017
How often does it fly? Five times weekly from Adelaide and three times weekly from Melbourne.
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? No competitors operate direct flights on this route.
Anything else I need to know? The Adelaide departures will be operated by Eastern Australia Airlines, while Melbourne departures will be operated by Sunstate on behalf of Eastern Australia Airlines.


airberlin: Chicago and Toronto-Dusseldorf

When does it launch? May 2018
How often does it fly? Five times weekly from Chicago and four times weekly from Toronto.
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? American Airlines, Finnair, Lufthansa and US Airways all operate direct flights on this route, while British Airways, Iberia Airlines and United Airlines operate codeshare services.
Anything else I need to know? Flying time is approximately 9 hours.


Virgin Australia streamlines Melbourne to Hong Kong flights

In an effort to promote consistency, the Australian international carrier announced new seasonal departure and arrival times for flights between Melbourne and Hong Kong.

From 30 October through to 24 March 2018 VA87 will depart Melbourne at 10:55am and arrive in Hong Kong at 5:35pm. Virgin Australia will continue to operate five return services per week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. The return flight time of 7:50pm from Hong Kong remains unchanged.


Scoot to launch five new routes

Scoot has revealed it will launch flights to five new destinations by July 2018. These include its first US destination, Honolulu, as well as Asian hotspots Harbin, Kuching, Kuantan and Palembang.

These new routes are in addition to the adoption of Tigerair Singapore's entire network following Scoot's recent absorption of the brand, bringing the low-cost carrier's total destination count to 65 by mid-2018.
