Qantas takes over trans-Tasman flights from Emirates

Emirates will axe its trans-Tasman flights from March 2018 and pass the route onto partnership partner Qantas.

The immediate effect is estimated to be about 300,000 fewer seats per year, out of about 10.2 million total, and from March 2018, flights between Australia and New Zealand could well get more expensive.

The daily Melbourne-Auckland and Brisbane-Auckland flights will be scrapped, but Emirates will keep its daily Airbus A380 Dubai-Sydney-Christchurch flights. These changes are part of the airlines' updated partnership.

Qatar Airways doubles flights to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe

Qatar Airways has dramatically picked up the pace of flights to destinations in Eastern Europe and the Nordics, following a substantial increase in travel demand for these regions.

This doubling of flights comes just eight weeks after the expedited launch of flights to Prague in the Czech Republic, on only the first anniversary of Qatar's first scheduled flights to Helsinki, Finland, and little more than a year after it upped the capacity of flights to Warsaw with an Airbus A330 upgrade.

This increase will take the form of new daily Airbus A320s to each destination, starting in mid December to offer 132 extra daily seats in each direction. If the Czech Republic, Poland or Finland is on your list then 2018 is your year.

Delta extends travel options to India

Delta Air Lines will codeshare with Alitalia on the Italian airline's Rome to Delhi route from 29 October 2017.

The US carrier will add its code (DL) to Alitalia's daily services between Italy and India during winter 2017/18.

Delta ends New Jersey to Amsterdam service

Delta Air Lines will cease its Newark to Amsterdam flights, with the last departure scheduled for 23 March 2018.

The Skyteam-member airline operated this route four times per week during the winter season.
