We suss out the new flight routes taking off around the world as well as route cancellations and changes that might affect you.

Just announced

KLM: Mauritius-Amsterdam

When does it launch? 30 October 2018
How often does it fly? Three weekly services
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? Air France will operate a codeshare service.
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 11 hours 20 minutes. A twice-weekly summer service operated by Air Mauritius will commence 26 March 2018. A third weekly flight will be added in August and October.


China Southern: Shenzhen-Moscow

When does it launch? 28 September 2017
How often does it fly? Two weekly services
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? No competitors operate direct flights
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 10 hours 10 minutes


Norwegian: London-Chicago

When does it launch? 25 March 2018
How often does it fly? Four weekly services
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? United Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, American Airlines, Finnair, British Airways and Iberia.
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 8 hours 25 minutes. Flights will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing London Gatwick at 10:00 and arriving in Chicago at 12:25.


AirAsia: Kolkata-Jaipur

When does it launch? 1 August 2017
How often does it fly? One weekly service
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? IndiGo and GoGoAir
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 2 hours 15 minutes


Norwegian: London-Austin, Texas

When does it launch? 27 March 2018
How often does it fly? Three weekly services
Where is the stopover? Non-stop direct
Who else competes on that route? British Airways, Finnair, American Airlines and Iberia.
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 10 hours 20 minutes. Flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, departing London Gatwick at 10:00 and arriving in Austin at 14:20.

Qatar: Doha-Nice

When did it launch? 4 July 2017
How often does it fly? Five weekly services
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? No competitors offer direct flights
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 6 hours 30 minutes. Flights take off on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Flight changes and cancellations

Emirates adds a second daily flight to Brussels from Dubai

From 29 October, Emirates will increase its daily flights between Dubai and Brussels to two. This second service will use the Boeing 777-300ER and will depart from Dubai at 14:20, arriving in Brussels at 18:45. It returns from Brussels at 20:15 and arrives in Dubai at 5:55 enabling convenient connections to South African and Indian Ocean destinations.

The current flight schedule departs Dubai at 8:20 to arrive in Brussels at 15:05 and departs Dubai at 23:40 to arrive in Brussels at 13:25.

Cathay Pacific reintroduces fifth weekly service between Adelaide and Hong Kong

From 5 July, Cathay Pacific increased its weekly services between Adelaide and Hong Kong to five times weekly. The additional flight departs Hong Kong on Wednesdays at 19:00 to arrive in Adelaide at 5:10 (Thursday). The return leg departs Adelaide on Thursday at 6:25 and arrives in Hong Kong at 13:45.
