We suss out the new flight routes taking off around the world soon as well as route cancellations and changes that might affect you.

British Airways: Manchester-Salzburg

When does it launch? December 2017
How often does it fly? Once weekly
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? Eurowings and Jet2 during winter months
Anything else I need to know? Flight time is approximately 2 hours 15 minutes. This is a seasonal route operating between December and April. British Airways is also launching a Manchester-Chambery snow season route this year for the same months.


China Eastern: Shanghai-Clark (Philippines)

When does it launch? 18 October 2017
How often does it fly? Daily
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? No competitors operate direct flights
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 3 hours 15 minutes. Flights depart from Shanghai Pu Dong airport.


Delta Airlines: Los Angeles-Mexico City

When does it launch? 1 December 2017
How often does it fly? Daily
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? Volaris, InterJet, United Airlines, American Airlines and AeroMexico. AeroMexico is a codeshare partner of Delta Airlines
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 3 hours 55 minutes.


S7 Airlines: St Petersburg-Verona

When does it launch? 23 December 2017
How often does it fly? Three times weekly
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? Neos Air.
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 3 hours 10 minutes. S7 Airlines is also launching services between St Petersburg and Turin in December.


easyJet: New winter 2017/18 routes

Budget carrier easyJet has released its new European winter routes. Launching from 29 October, sample routes include Bristol-Athens, Geneva-Gran Canaria, London Luton-Alghero, London Southend-Malta, Paris-Lanzarote and Venice-Tel Aviv.


Ryanair: New winter 2017/2018 routes

Similar to easyJet, Ryanair has also released details of its new winter routes. Launching from 29 October, sample routes now available to book include Barcelona-Prague, Bratislava-Thessaloniki, Edinburgh-Toulouse, Fez-Bremen, Frankfurt-Porto, Krakow-Marrakech, Krakow-Tel Aviv, Madrid-Bari, Stockholm-Nis and Valencia-Milan.


Virgin Australia increases Adelaide-Alice Springs-Darwin flights

From 5 September, Virgin Australia is adding an extra service on Tuesdays and Fridays to its Adelaide to Alice Springs to Darwin route. This service will return on Friday and Saturday mornings. As a result of these flight increases, Virgin Australia will also change Wednesday and Thursday flight times to 5pm from Alice Springs to Darwin. The new Friday service from Alice Springs to Darwin will also depart at 5pm. All Darwin to Alice Springs services will depart at 7am.


Cathay Pacific adds fifth weekly Hong Kong to Maldives flight

Cathay Pacific is adding an extra weekly service to its Hong Kong-Male route for the winter season. Flights depart Hong Kong on Mondays and return from Male on Tuesdays between 4 December and 27 February.


Qantas and LATAM Chile extend codeshare routes

From 5 October, Qantas will service codeshare routes with LATAM via Melbourne, allowing for same-day connections to LATAM’s Santiago de Chile-Melbourne route. The new codeshare routes that will carry LATAM-coded flight numbers are Melbourne–Adelaide, Melbourne–Alice Springs, Melbourne–Brisbane, Melbourne–Cairns, Melbourne–Canberra, Melbourne–Darwin, Melbourne–Devonport, Melbourne–Gold Coast, Melbourne–Hamilton Island, Melbourne–Launceston, Melbourne–Mildura and Melbourne–Perth.
