Our weekly round-up of new flight routes and route changes worldwide.

Here are the most notable new flight routes that will be jet setting across the globe soon as well as route cancellations and changes that might affect you.

British Airways: London City Airport-Reykjavik

When does it launch? October 2017
How often does it fly? Two times weekly
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? No competitors operate direct flights out of London City Airport.
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately 3 hours 20 minutes. Flights depart on Thursdays and Sundays. This is a winter route only and fares start from £59 each way.


AirAsia: Kuala Lumpur-Davao

When does it launch? 21 December 2017
How often does it fly? Four weekly flights
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? No competitors operate direct flights.
Anything else I need to know? Travel time is approximately four hours.


Qatar Airways: Doha-Canberra

When does it launch? 12 February 2018
How often does it fly? Two weekly flights
Where is the stopover? Sydney
Who else competes on that route? No competitors operate direct flights.
Anything else I need to know? All flights include a stopover in Sydney. The proposed schedule departs Doha at 8:10, arrives in Sydney at 6:15 the following day and flies to Canberra at 7:25. The return leg departs Canberra at 13:45, arrives in Sydney at 14:45 and then departs for Doha at 15:55.


Delta Airlines: Atlanta-Shanghai

When does it launch? July 2018
How often does it fly? Daily
Where is the stopover? Non-stop, direct
Who else competes on that route? No competitors operate direct flights.
Anything else I need to know? The proposed schedule sees flights depart Atlanta at 3pm and arrive in Shanghai at 6:50pm the following day. The return flight departs Shanghai at 11:40am and arrives in Atlanta at 2:55pm.


Emirates to utilize the A380 on its double-daily Dubai-Moscow service

From 1 October, Emirates will use the A380 for its double-daily flights between Dubai and Moscow. This is to help boost seat capacity to Russia and allow for more seamless connections from Australian cities to connecting flights. Amendments have also been made to the airline’s winter schedule to St Petersburg with flights between 29 October and 24 March departing Pulkovo International Airport at 23:55 and landing in Dubai at 7:05, allowing travellers to transfer onto more daily flights in Dubai.


Malaysia Airlines moves Airbus A350 flights to London forward

Malaysia Airlines is expected to receive delivery of its first two Airbus A350 jets in November/December 2017. If this goes ahead, it will launch the airplane on its Kuala Lumpur-London route by January 2018.


Air New Zealand increases flights to Bali for summer

Increased seasonal flights from Auckland to Bali are scheduled to begin 7 April 2018 with twice weekly flights on Wednesday and Saturdays. From 14 May to 29 June, this will increase again to three times weekly with an additional flight on Mondays and from 29 June will increase to four times weekly with another flight on Fridays. During July, Air New Zealand will operate flights between Auckland and Bali five times weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.


China Southern increases Perth-Guangzhou service

From 29 October 2017, China Southern will increase flights between Perth and Guangzhou from four times weekly to five times weekly. This additional service will fly on Sundays.

    I am hoping to fly from Melbourne to Reykavik Iceland. In April 2018 looking for great price and a reasonably direct route. Thank you hoping to be in Iceland 3 months
