Why we love this product
By now, most of us have heard about Rodan + Fields. It's not a brand you'll find on your department store shelves. Instead, Rodan + Fields is one of those brands sold through on-the-road sales reps a bit like Avon or Mary-Kay.
Developed by dermatologists Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields, the pair started up-market skincare brand Rodan + Fields in 2002. To this day, the brand is probably most well-known for it's anti-acne regime for adults and teenagers – but of course the brand has anti-ageing, brightening and exfoliating skincare too.
The quick verdict
Why is it good? It provides light coverage and SPF protection with no blocked pores.
How much is it? $89
Where to buy it? Rodan + Fields website or through a consultant.
I recently was given the chance to try out one of the newer products to the Rodan + Fields line, the Radiant Defense Perfecting Liquid. Before the product had made its way to my desk, I had a feeling this was going to be a winner. The Perfecting Liquid is a foundation or BB cream style product but it's created by a brand that understands skincare.
The Radiant Defense Perfecting Liquid is designed to be the final step in your skincare routine. Not quite a moisturiser, not quite sunscreen, this product is a little bit of both and more. This liquid is designed to provide a light skin perfecting coverage, offers SPF protection plus a spectrum of anti-oxidants to give additional skin protection. It's a balm that can protect the skin you've just cleansed, toned and moisturised.
According to the Rodan + Fields product description: "Our proprietary complex is a three-part formulation of antioxidants to help neutralise environmental aggressors; barrier defense agents to help repair skin’s natural moisture barrier; and broad-spectrum SPF to protect skin from sun exposure."
It comes in six shades and I was the medium-dark shade called Golden. The picture of the shade didn't seem to be an exact match for me, but since the coverage is quite light, it matched well enough when I applied it.

It's a non-comedogenic, oil-free formula that glides effortlessly across your face. The consistency is thin and silky and it blends extremely well. I applied it with a Rodan + Fields blending brush and it needed very little coaxing to make its way into the skin. As expected, the coverage is light. My pigmentation issues and spider veins were covered but larger imperfections like beauty spots shone through. I loved this finish. Although I like some coverage, I like my skin to still look like skin. And this product certainly gave me that desired look.
But for those who prefer a heavier coverage, you can actually use this as a base for your foundation. If you have a favourite or best foundation, just apply it over the top. It's great to see a product that can slip into any existing skincare and makeup routine.
But probably my favourite aspect of this product was that it didn't give me spots or blocked pores. I actually forgo foundation or heavy SPF products during the week. If I wear these everyday my face ends up rough and very congested. But when I washed the Rodan + Fields formula off at the end of the day, my skin was as smooth as it was at the beginning of the day. A very nice surprise. In my opinion, this is one of the very few products promised to be non-comedogenic that actually is non-comedogenic. Most of them just aren't. But this one is.
I really loved this product. It's a well formulated cosmetic product but designed with skincare sensibilities in mind. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that is looking for an SPF product or coverage product that won't clog pores.
Affordability
At $89 this isn't cheap by any means. But I personally like it enough that I would buy it again.
Where to buy?
