REX is shaking things up with cheap flights between Australia's two largest cities.

Want to zip between Sydney and Melbourne in luxury but don't want to pay the Qantas or Virgin Australia price tag?

Then check out Rex.

Typically known for serving Australia's regional airports, Rex is now expanding its network to include more popular routes. Including Sydney to Melbourne.

To celebrate (and win you over) it's selling flights from just $79 each way.

Being a full-service airline this includes a meal, 23kg of checked luggage and two carry-on items with a maximum total weight of 7kg.

All up there are 100,000 seats on sale for travel from 1 March 2021 to 29 October 2021. As a bonus, weekends and public holidays are included in the sale.

And if you feel like getting a little fancy, business class seats are also available from $299 each way.

Keen? You can book your flight direct through Rex now. Or, compare flight times and prices through Skyscanner to see if booking elsewhere can score you an even better deal.

There's no end date to this sale as flights are only available until the 100,000 seats are sold out.

How good are these Rex Airlines fares?

  • Price: Great. Compared to Australia's other full-service airlines these prices are as cheap as they get between Sydney and Melbourne. Right now, you'll find Virgin slinging $99 Sydney-Melbourne flights and Qantas charging even more with fares from $125 each way. If you do feel the cost is still steep, budget airline Jetstar has flights from $61 each way based on a trip on 1 March 2021. This doesn't include checked luggage or meals though.
  • Airline: Good. Rex is a full-service airline and has been praised by customers on the website Skytrax for its high quality service.
  • Frequent flyer points: Rex has a loyalty program where you can earn 2 flights for every 18 you take. Joining costs $99 for a 2-year membership.
  • Travel time: Great. These flights are direct.
  • Weather: Great. With almost 12 months worth of travel dates on sale, you can visit Sydney or Melbourne in whatever season suits you.
