Why we love this product
If you haven't heard about Revolution Beauty, you need to jump on the bandwagon now. The beauty brand blew up on Instagram and has now become a global phenomenon. Revolution delivers high-quality makeup and skincare products at an affordable price. The range is 100% cruelty-free and most of the products are considered vegan. Recently, the brand landed into the Australian market and boy, was that a great day!
The quick verdict
Why is it good? The shadows are pigmented, easy to blend and you can create a number of looks for an affordable price.
How much is it? $8
Where to buy it? Priceline
One of the products to catch my eye was the Revolution Re-Loaded Velvet Rose palette. Why did I decide to try an $8 eyeshadow palette? When I am looking for a new one, I usually shop at places like Sephora or Cult Beauty. Give me all the Marc Jacobs, Urban Decay and Too Faced palettes please! Very rarely do I venture out to Priceline or Chemist Warehouse. As bad as it may sound, the palettes I buy are usually upwards of $50. But, I had heard great things about Revolution Beauty so I decided to go against my ways and give it a go – and I was more than impressed. The Re-Loaded Velvet Rose eyeshadow palette has become my new go-to and you need to buy it too.
The Velvet Rose eyeshadow palette features 15 shades in a combination of colours and formulas. It promises to give you the freedom to create a multitude of makeup looks, thanks to the wearable shades. Feel free to pop a smooth and creamy matte in your crease or a multi-dimension glitter shade on the centre of your lid. You can use this eyeshadow palette to create a basic look for work, something fun and glam for a night out with the girls, or something sultry for a date night.
The colour story of the Velvet Rose palette is right up my alley. I love warm-toned palettes, especially anything with an orange hue because it looks amazing against my blue eyes. There is plenty of beige, brown, gold, orange and burgundy – plus a pigmented black with a copper glitter twist. If the shades in the Velvet Rose palette aren't your style, Revolution Beauty sells twelve other palettes in the same exact formula.
Let's talk about the formula. The shadows are pigmented but still very easy to use and blend out, so it's great for beginners. I hate blending out my shadow for more than a few minutes, preferring to spend more time on my complexion, and thankfully this was not the case. There is a tiny bit of fall-out but that's not a deal-breaker for me. Naturally, I always tap any excess shadow off my brush so it didn't bother me at all.

I decided to swatch a few of my absolute favourite shades, so you can see both the pigmentation and formula. The glitters are just one single swipe, and for the mattes I probably did about two or three at the very most. As you can see, the shadows are vibrant and very easy to work with. It's a little annoying that the shades don't have actual names but it's not a big deal. From left to right, the shades are:
- Shade 13
- Shade 8
- Shade 12
- Shade 7
- Shade 14
In my opinion, the Velvet Rose eyeshadow palette is a great purchase. If you are a beginner or just want to start experimenting with eyeshadow, this palette is cheap and allows you to try a variety of makeup looks. It's also great to travel with. The palette is roughly an A5 notebook size and it's quite slim, so it doesn't add any bulk to your bag. The one negative I would say is that there is no mirror. Having a mirror means you can easily do your makeup on the go and I really appreciate it when brands have one. But again for the price, it's hard to justify my complaint.
The Re-Loaded Velvet Rose eyeshadow palette is an absolute steal at $8. At this affordable price, you get 15 pigmented eyeshadows that are incredibly easy to use and so gorgeous. Comparing this price to the other eyeshadow palettes in my collection that are upwards of $50, I would be more than happy to buy this product again. In fact, I wouldn't mind giving the other palettes from the brand a red hot go.
Where to buy
