QuickSwap is a decentralised exchange (DEX) built within the decentralised finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Using an automated market maker (AMM), the exchange allows users to instantly swap ERC-20 tokens. According to the QuickSwap blog, the project promises lightning-fast transactions and negligible gas fees. The increase in DeFi functionality has unintentionally resulted in the crowding of Ethereum-based apps and, as such, gas costs can spike frequently. To account for this, QuickSwap was developed on the layer-2 Polygon network. The main goal of layer-2 protocols is to solve the scalability and speed issues that are inherent with existing layer-1 networks, like Ethereum. The Polygon network sends transactions off the main blockchain and into secure Proof-of-Stake ‘sidechains’. This layer-2 solution is known as ‘More Viable Plasma’ and helps the network verify transactions simultaneously. QUICK is an ERC-20 (Ethereum-based) token native to the QuickSwap network. The token is vital to the platform’s economic stability. As well as being used to vote on governance proposals, QUICK tokens are distributed to liquidity providers as an incentive to keep the AMM functional. They can also be staked on the QuickSwap DEX.
