QT Hotels shows off upcoming Queenstown alpine resort

QT Queenstown is dressed to impress.

The hard truth is that Australia's ski resorts can't really compete with New Zealand. Queenstown alone offers easy access to Treble Cone, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables. And now Queenstown might pull further ahead with a very shiny new hotel from QT.

The QT ski hotel at Falls Creek has now been named Australia's best ski hotel five years in a row, but the new Queenstown offering might be something else entirely.

The 69 room hotel is set to open on 1 December 2017, and start welcoming guests for the summer season immediately. It should be in full swing for next winter.

It might not be the most spacious stay among high-end hotels, but that just means it's packing in more than its fair share of quality.

The spooky ghosts will be removed in the final stages of construction.

The hotel

Sitting next to Lake Wakatipu, the resort combines lake views, mountain views and the high-end designer quirkiness that characterises QT's city offerings. Veteran designer Nic Graham was brought on board to create the guest room experience.

The signature QT gel beds will be making an appearance in each, along with floor-to-ceiling windows, timber floorboards, and oversized standalone bathtub in the large ensuite.

Ghost presumably not to scale.

And the hotel's restaurants and bars might be best described as gastronomical, especially the Bazaar Interactive Marketplace where chefs bring some theatrics to the table "to create both an ocular and gastronomic experience for guests like no other."

A dessert encore.

The rooms

  • Alpine King - The "basic" room is still fit for a king of the mountain, with all the hotel's signature essentials.
  • Alpine Suite - Take your pick of a plush QT King Gel Bed or two singles, and take in the views through from the separate lounge area.
  • Lake King - You can make the most of the waterfront vistas with the Juliet balcony, and that much more designer decor and mod cons.
  • Remarkable King - Lake and mountain views just outside the floor to ceiling windows, along with a host of other perks, like personalised bellhop benefits and leisurely late checkout.

The QT is dressed to impress, but Queenstown is home to a lot of luxurious hotels, so it has some stiff competition ahead.

But in a destination like that you can't really go wrong anywhere on the quality scale.
