How do I apply for QBE travel insurance?

  • Compare policy options. Your destination, its region, your age and the level of cover you can afford will determine your choice.
  • Get a quote. You can get a quote online by entering your personal and travel details into the online calculator.
  • Read the PDS. The terms of your contract and the sections under which you can claim are detailed in the PDS. Read it carefully to make sure that the policy you choose meets your expectations.
  • Additional options. QBE offers several additional options to upgrade your travel insurance policy, from cover for snow sports and valuable items to extra excess to lower your premium.

How do I make a claim with QBE?

Thanks to an online claim filing facility, claims can be lodged any time, whether locally or overseas. A claims officer will be assigned to your claim within 24 hours. Here are a few things to keep in mind when filing a claim.

1. Keep all necessary information handy. This includes your insurance policy number, your contact and travel details, and any evidence to support your claim.

2. Be thorough. Provide all the information required for QBE to process your claim. An incomplete submission will lead to delays and possibly penalties for costs incurred by QBE. Your claim may be refused or your policy cancelled if you provide insufficient or false information.

3. Be patient. Provided you’ve supplied all the necessary information, your claim will be processed within 10 days working days. In the meantime, refrain from handling matters yourself without conferring with your claims officer.

QBE FAQ

Here are a few frequently asked questions about QBE travel insurance.

  • Q. Who can apply for these policies?
    • Age limits and eligibility differ from policy to policy. Travellers aged 70 years and older aren’t automatically covered and must submit a Travellers Medical Appraisal form before QBE will issue the Certificate of Insurance.
  • Q. How is my premium calculated?
    • When calculating your premium, factors like the length of your trip, the type of plan chosen and any optional extras you’ve added are taken into account. This includes relevant government charges and additional fees for any changes you’ve made to your policy.
  • Q. What is the duty of disclosure?
    • It’s your duty to be honest and tell QBE about any condition or information that may affect your cover. If you’re found to have been dishonest, you run the risk of having your claim rejected and your policy cancelled.
  • Q. What are some of the additional benefits I can purchase?
    • Depending on your policy, you can add the following to your policy:
      • Excess Buy Out to remove excess payable
      • Additional Rental Vehicle Insurance Excess Cover
      • Snow Sports Cover
      • Pre-existing Medical Conditions of a non-travelling spouse or business partner
      • Specified Item Cover
  • Q. What are some of the risks of which I need to be aware?
    • Some risks include:
      • The policy not meeting your expectations
      • Not having the right amount of cover
      • Having a claim refused
      • Not being able to claim for the loss of unattended luggage and personal effects
  • Q. Who underwrites QBE?
    • QBE underwrites its own travel insurance policies. In an emergency, you will be assisted by QBE Assist available worldwide and 24/7.
  • Q. Can I cancel my QBE policy if I’m not happy with it?
    • If you’d like to return your policy for a full refund, there is a 14-day cooling-off period. You can cancel your policy during this period provided you haven’t left on your trip or filed to claim from your policy, you are eligible for the refund.
