Qantas and Velocity are Australia’s largest frequent flyer programs. As well as flying with the airline or using a frequent flyer credit card, you could earn frequent flyer points with your preferred airline when you fill up at the petrol station.

The verdict: Velocity

The Qantas Frequent Flyer program has a competitive offer with Caltex for earning points at the petrol pump thanks to the ability to earn Everyday Rewards which can then be exchanged for Qantas Points.

However, Velocity has the upper hand when it comes to petrol points. Not only can you earn Velocity Frequent Flyer points at more locations, you can earn them directly by swiping your card at the checkout. On the other hand, Qantas Frequent Flyer customers had to join the Everyday Rewards program and opt to earn Qantas points to start collecting points for petrol.

Velocity-logo-200x100Velocity Frequent Flyers can earn rewards points on fuel when they fill up with BP service stations. If you're not yet a member, you can learn how to sign up and join the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program for free here.

How do I earn points?

All you have to do is swipe your Velocity membership card at the counter before you pay. You earn 2 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points for every litre of fuel purchased up to 150 litres of fuel, and 2 Velocity Points for every dollar spent in-store up to $100.

Are there any restrictions?

You can’t earn Velocity points on tobacco, lottery tickets, prepaid mobile phone cards and gift cards when shopping at BP service stations. The capped earning of up to 150 litres or $100 at BP could also restrict your potential to collect points.

Where can I earn points?

Velocity frequent flyers can earn points any time they fill up or make an in-store purchase at any participating BP service station in Australia.

Velocity Frequent Flyers can earn points at over 1,400 BP stations around Australia.
