  1. Submit the claims form. You can fill in the online claims form online or download and post it to the insurer. Be sure to fill in the form completely – an incomplete form will not be processed.
  2. Provide the necessary information. Besides the claims form, you should also have your policy number, contact and travel details, and supporting documentation on hand.
  3. Paying the claim. Claims will be paid in Australian dollars at the exchange rate prevalent at the time of the incident. If you’re found to be dishonest or you attempt to defraud the insurer, your claim will not be paid and/or your policy might be cancelled.

Qantas Travel Insurance FAQ

  • Can I book my policy online?
    • Qantas offers a range of QBE travel policies which can be booked online for holidays leaving from Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, United Kingdom and United States. Qantas Frequent Flyer members can use their loyalty points to purchase travel insurance.
  • I have a sports-packed itinerary. Which sports aren't covered?
    • The following sporting activities are not automatically covered by Qantas policies: professional sporting activities, motorcycling without a valid licence, racing, running with bulls, mountaineering or rock-climbing using ropes and base-jumping. Cover for snow sports can be added to your policy at an additional cost.
  • In which instances could my claim be refused?
    • The insurer may refuse to pay your claim or reduce the amount paid if you violate the policy conditions, if you don’t comply with the duty of disclosure, if you misrepresent yourself or if you attempt to defraud the insurer.
  • How much will the policy cost?
    • The price of your policy depends on several factors, including the length of your trip, the travel plan selected, whether it’s a single, duo or family plan, and any additional options purchased.
  • What about pre-existing medical conditions?
    • If you have a pre-existing medical condition and are aged 70 years and under, you need to submit a medical appraisal form before QBE grants the Certificate of Insurance. If cover is granted, you will be notified in writing and asked to pay an additional amount.
  • Who underwrites Qantas Travel Insurance?
    • Qantas policies are underwritten by QBE Insurance. In an emergency, assistance will be provided by QBE Assist.
  • Can I cancel my Qantas Travel insurance policy if I’m not happy with it?
    • If you cancel your policy within the 14-day cooling-off period, you will receive a full refund provided you haven’t left on your trip or filed to claim from your policy.

I am planning to travel with 5 friends next October 8-21st October 2017 to India. My two concerns are: my husband who has a terminal illness may deteriorate prior to trip, therefore I would need to cancel, and also my employer has agreed to annual leave in principle but this could change with work demands at that time. Do you provide insurance for either or both of these situations?
