You can take advantage of a competitive earn rate and boost your rewards with bonus points when you use the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard. To give some examples, with 120,000 bonus Qantas Points, you could fly return from Australia’s east coast to London or New York or upgrade over 20 short domestic flights from economy to business class.

Although the total bonus points offer is high, it’s important to pay attention to the offer conditions. Unlike some other Qantas Frequent Flyer credit cards, the spend requirement is staggered and you won’t get the total bonus points unless you meet the spend requirement all six months.

How to apply

You can apply for the Qantas Premier Platinum online in 10 minutes. Before you apply, check if you meet the eligibility criteria and that you have the necessary information to complete the application:

Eligibility criteria

  • Income. You must earn at least $35,000 per year to apply for this card.
  • Current Qantas Premier cardholder status. You won't be eligible to apply for this card if you are the primary cardholder of another Qantas Premier credit card account.

Card benefits

  • Discounted annual fee. Apply by 31 October 2019 and save with a reduced annual fee of $199 for the first year ($299 p.a. thereafter).
  • Up to 120,000 bonus Qantas Points. You can earn 120,000 bonus Qantas Points (20,000 points each month) when you apply and get approved for a Qantas Premier Platinum by 31 October 2019 and spend at least $1,500 on eligible purchases each month for the first 6 months. Eligible purchases include most everyday spending but exclude things like cash advances, balance transfers, BPAY payments and government related transactions. Your bonus points will be credited to your account within 6 to 8 weeks of meeting the spend requirement.

Rates & fees

  • Annual fee. Outside of any promotions, this card charges a standard annual fee of $299.
  • Purchase rate. The variable purchase interest rate for this card is 19.99% p.a.

Hi! I am not sure what qualifies as an eligible spend?

“Earning up to 2 points per $1 spent on eligible spend with Qantas”

Can you purchase everyday items and earn Qantas points? What item does not qualify? Also, how many points do you get per dollar spent on everyday items?

      Hi Greg,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Qantas Points and government-related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court-related costs).

You can purchase everyday items and earn Qantas Points,.5 Qantas Point per whole AU$1 equivalent on International Spend; 1.0 Qantas Point per whole AU$1 on Domestic Spend up to and including AU$10,000 each Statement Period, 0.5 Qantas Points per whole AU$1 spent above AU$10,000 each Statement Period: plus 1 Additional Qantas Point per whole AU$1 on Qantas Spend.

International Spend means any Eligible Transaction made with a merchant who tells us they are located in a country outside Australia. Domestic Spend means any Eligible Transaction made with a merchant who tells us they are located within Australia.

For more information on this, you can read through the terms and conditions of the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard’s website.

      Hope this helps!

      Hi Amrith,

      Thank you for contacting Finder.

Yes, there is a 3% (for the whole amount of the transaction) Foreign Currency Conversion Fee for the transactions that needs AUD to be converted to the local currency.

      I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to reach out again if you have additional questions.

      Cheers,

Hi just another question about the lounge passes. Are you permitted to invite one guest in per entry also or would they have to pay?

      Hi Martina,

      Thank you for contacting Finder.

For Qantas Lounges, you may bring 1 guest if you are travelling domestically. Moreover, you can bring 1 guest with you to enter the International and Partner Lounges but they should be travelling with you and will be flying through Qantas or any partner airlines.

      I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to reach out again to us if you have additional questions.

      Cheers,
      Ash

With this Qantas card, does the initial $3,500 spend need to be in AUD or can it be in any currency?

      Hi Ian,

      Thank you for reaching out.

It can be any currency. As long as the initial spent totals to $3,500 when converted to AUD and are eligible purchases, you can be eligible for the bonus offer.

      Hope this helps! 😊

      Kind Regards,
      Mai

If I meet the spend threshold within a week, how long until the 70,000 points are received?

    Thanks

      Hi Vince,

      Thank you for reaching out.

This depends on the time it takes for a store to approve a transaction. Once the store approves, which is determined by how long the store allows for returns or exchanges. Most stores approve within 60 days of purchase, but some may take up to 150 days. Once the $3,500 spend for all the stores are approved, you may wait for the next billing cycle for the bonus points to be credited.

      Hope this helps! 😊

      Kind Regards,
      Mai

Hi I was just wondering it says 2 single entry lounge passes. If myself and my partner has a card each for the one account can we both gain entry into the lounge when we go on holiday or just one of us?

      Hi David,

Thank you for reaching out to Finder.

The Qantas Money app allows you to see all your accounts, all in one place. This is how you could manage the account that you may have. Easily and securely connect all your different financial institutions and we’ll automatically keep your balances and transactions up-to-date. See your spend organised into categories that reflect your lifestyle. Since what you are paying for would be a credit card, any financial facility may assist in paying the card off since it is the credit card number that you use and not a specific bank account. Hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Reggie
