You can take advantage of a competitive earn rate and boost your rewards with bonus points when you use the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard. To give some examples, you could fly return from Perth to Singapore in business class (50,000 points each way) or return from Melbourne to Los Angeles in economy (45,000 points each way) with 120,000 Qantas Points.

Although the total bonus points offer is high, it’s important to pay attention to the offer conditions. Unlike some other Qantas Frequent Flyer credit cards, the spend requirement is staggered and you won’t get the total bonus points unless you meet the spend requirement for all six months.

How to apply

You can apply for the Qantas Premier Platinum online in 10 minutes. Before you apply, check if you meet the eligibility criteria and that you have the necessary information to complete the application:

Eligibility criteria

  • Income. You must earn at least $35,000 per year to apply for this card.
  • Current Qantas Premier cardholder status. You won't be eligible to apply for this card if you are the primary cardholder of another Qantas Premier credit card account.

Card benefits

  • Discounted annual fee. Apply by 26 February 2020 and save with a reduced annual fee of $199 for the first year ($299 p.a. thereafter).
  • Up to 120,000 bonus Qantas Points. Each month for the first 6 months from card approval, you will earn 20,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend at least $1,500 on eligible purchases. You must apply and be approved for a new Qantas Premier Platinum by 26 February 2020. Eligible purchases include most everyday spending but exclude things like cash advances, balance transfers, BPAY payments and government related transactions. Your bonus points will be credited to your account within 6 to 8 weeks of meeting the spend requirement.

Rates & fees

  • Annual fee. Outside of any promotions, this card charges a standard annual fee of $299 p.a.
  • Purchase rate. The variable purchase interest rate for this card is 19.99% p.a.

To get the bonus points you need to spend $1,500 per month but if you have a balance transfer won’t this affect the interest rate you pay? Will purchases be charged at interest rate around 20% from time of purchased? Do you still get interest free days (normally 55 days) on new purchases?

    • AvatarStaff
      November 9, 2019

      Hi Lance,

      Thanks for contacting Finder.

No, the Balance Transfer Interest Rate will not affect your Purchase Interest Rate which is at 19.99% p.a.

New purchases will accrue the Standard Purchase Interest Rate mentioned above. Yes, you can take advantage of the 55 days Interest Free Period given that you will be paying your closing balance at its due date.

      I hope this helps.

Is Complimentary Lounge Access available in all the airports or only Qantas owned? If only Qantas owned, than it’s not much good is it because these lounges are only in Australia? Who needs lounge access when departing from Australia?

      Hi Dave,

      Thanks for contacting Finder.

For the Complimentary Lounge Invites, you can access the Qantas Club Lounges as well as their operated International Business Lounges except the Los Angeles Tom Bradley Terminal International Business Lounge.

      I hope this helps.

The complimentary travel insurance. At what age does this stop?

    • AvatarStaff
      November 5, 2019

      Hi Noel,

Thanks for getting in touch! The complimentary travel insurance of this Qantas card is limited up until 80 years of age at the time of travel. This also is the same for a wife or fiancé(e) or a de-facto and/or life partner, who is not over eighty 80 years of age at any time during a Trip, and with whom the Cardmember has continuously cohabited for a period of six (6) months or more.

As a friendly reminder, check the eligibility requirements of the card before proceeding with your application. Also, read about its features and benefits and see how it fits your financial needs. Additionally, it’s helpful to review the PDS and Terms & Conditions of the card before fully committing to the card. You may also reach out to the bank if you have any clarifications.

Hope this helps and feel free to reach out to us again for further assistance.

      With care,

I have a NAB Platinum One Qantas card and only receive points up to a $6000 spend. Can I get a NAB Qantas card that awards points on more than a $6000 spend?

    • AvatarStaff
      October 9, 2019

      Hi Bill,

      Thank you for your comment.

Upon checking, I am sorry to inform your that you will not qualify for the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card bonus points because this is not available to existing customers who have received or are entitled to receive NAB Qantas Rewards Bonus Points for a new personal NAB Qantas Rewards credit card in the twelve months prior to the opening of a NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card, NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card or NAB Qantas Rewards Card. Offer is not available when closing/transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB offer.

Before applying, please ensure that you meet all the eligibility criteria and read through the details of the needed requirements as well as the relevant Product Disclosure Statements/Terms and Conditions when comparing your options before making a decision on whether it is right for you.

      Hi Matt,

      Thanks for contacting Finder.

Unfortunately, the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard is not offered to temporary residents in Australia.

You may compare the Credit Cards listed at this page which you can apply to even if you are a temporary resident.

Please make sure though to read the eligibility criteria, features and details of the card, as well as the relevant PDS/ T&Cs of the card before making a decision and consider whether the product is right for you.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,

I have a Woolworths Money Qantas Platinum Visa (it doesn’t say “Premier Platinum” or “Premier Everyday”), am I eligible for the bonus points if I am approved by the eligibility date?

      September 20, 2019

      Hi James,

      Thanks for contacting Finder.

Yes, you can take advantage of the 120,000 bonus Qantas points from the Qantas Premier Platinum Mastercard even if you have the Woolworths Qantas Platinum Credit Card. The Credit Cards that you shouldn’t have to be able to earn the bonus points are: Qantas Premier Everyday, Qantas Premier Platinum or Qantas Premier Titanium.

      I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to reach out again if you have additional questions.

How does the complimentary travel insurance work and is there any excess if claim is made?

    • AvatarStaff
      September 21, 2019

      Hi Vip,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

The complimentary travel insurance of this credit card is activated and effective when you pay a minimum of $500 and/or pay the full amount of the return domestic or overseas travel ticket by charging the payment to your Qantas Premier Credit Card or by redeeming Qantas points earned on the Qantas Premier Credit Card. The Trip must commence and end in Australia. Cover is not activated until a minimum of $500 and/or full amount has been
paid for a return ticket (i.e. if you pay for a one-way ticket, you are not covered under these benefits). This cover is underwritten by Chubb Insurance. Kindly call them directly if you need further assistance on claims.

      I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

I am interested in this card but am currently holder of an AMEX card with Qantas FF rewards. Am I eligible for this card?

    • AvatarStaff
      September 4, 2019

      Hi Brooke,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

Having an American Express card should not restrict you from applying for this credit card. This means that, yes, you are eligible to apply for Qantas Premier Platinum card.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,

How do I arrange credit balance from another card to this new card?

    • AvatarStaff
      August 25, 2019

      Hi Shane,

      Thank you for contacting Finder.

In your application for the new Credit Card, you must declare that you intend to request a Balance Transfer from your old card to the new one. You must make the request for a Balance Transfer directly to the bank.

      I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to reach out again to us if you have additional questions.
