Qantas’ Cyber Week discounts: What’s the catch?

Posted: 22 November 2021 12:27 pm

Spend less and earn more Qantas Points during Cyber Week.

Black Friday is well and truly on its way and Qantas Frequent Flyer is getting in on the action early (like some other brands) and launching its Cyber Week sale today.

There are 3 ways to use or earn Qantas Points this year:

  • Rewards Store: Enjoy 20% off thousands of products in the rewards store (including Apple, Bose, Samsonite), plus 10% off all gift cards.
  • Qantas Wine: Save over 60% on red or white mystery cases.
  • Qantas Shopping: Earn up to 13 Qantas Points per $1 spent via Qantas Shopping.

Unfortunately, like last year, rewards flights aren't part of the occasion. Although never say never come Friday.

How does it work?

The Rewards Store is doing 20% off select products including phones, barbeques, fitness trackers, clothes, hair care products and more but there are a few catches.

The discount only applies when you pay via points and if you use Points Plus Pay a lower discount may apply.

Brands include:

  • Apple
  • Bissell
  • Bose
  • Breville
  • De'Longhi
  • Dyson
  • Fitbit
  • Garmin
  • Google
  • Havaianas
  • Hugo Boss
  • iRobot
  • Lacoste
  • LG
  • Parlux
  • Phillips
  • R.M. Williams
  • Rockport
  • Samsung
  • Sennheiser
  • Shark
  • Skechers
  • Sonos
  • Sony
  • Sunbeam
  • UE
  • Weber

The 10% off Gift Cards applies across the entire range including Woolworths, The Good Guys, David Jones, Bunnings, JB-HI-FI, Airbnb to name a few.

On the Qantas Wine front, you can save over 60% off quality red and white mystery cases. All wines included are guaranteed to be 5-star wineries with wines rated up to 96 points.

Qantas Shopping is your opportunity to earn points while you enjoy discounts from over 400 retailers.

Here are a few of the best offers:

  • Myer has up to 50% off home, clothing, footwear and more. Earn 5 points per $1, usually 2 points.
  • The Iconic has 30% off select items until sold out. Earn 6 points per $1, usually 2 points.

The Cyber Week sale runs right through to Cyber Monday ending 11:59pm AEDT 29 November 2021.

How good is this deal?

If you're looking to save on flights it's better luck next time. Although this year's Cyber Week offer is more substantial than last year which only included 20% off select products in the Rewards Store and discounts on Qantas Wine.

It's a good opportunity to earn extra Qantas Points via Qantas Shopping especially if you're in the process of buying gifts for Christmas.

But on the savings side of things, it's less exciting.

"These percentage savings might look tempting, but the best value still comes from keeping your Qantas Points and using them for flights or upgrades," said Finder's frequent flyer guru Angus Kidman. "With Black Friday sales already happening, this isn't a sensible way to use your points."
