Say hello to more frequent flyer points when you’re travelling between Australia and Asia.

While they’re already pals under the oneworld Alliance, Qantas and Cathay Pacific have further cemented their union with a new codeshare partnership.

Under the agreement, the Qantas code will be added to Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon services across services in Asia from Hong Kong to 10 cities including India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. It’ll also be added to Cathay Pacific’s long-haul flights from Hong Kong to Perth and Cairns. Cathay Pacific will also add its code to 13 routes on Qantas’ domestic network in Australia.

Tickets for these codeshare services will be available from 22 October 2018 for travel from 28 October 2018 onwards.

As always with codeshare agreements, the real silver lining comes with the increased frequent flyer opportunities. Qantas Frequent Flyers can now earn more Qantas Points and status credits when travelling on Qantas-coded flights. Cathay Pacific Marco Polo Club members can also look forward to more Club Points when travelling on a Cathay Pacific-coded Qantas flight.

THE POINTS FINDER TAKE

Under the oneworld Alliance partnership, Qantas Frequent Flyers could only earn reduced points and status credits on some eligible Cathay Pacific flights. This codeshare partnership opens up opportunities for frequent flyers to earn more points when travelling to and from Asia. The partnership also means you can look forward to other codeshare perks such as points plus pay Classic Flight Rewards.

As always, eligible customers can also travel in style thanks to access to both Cathay Pacific and Qantas lounges in Australia and Hong Kong, as well as other oneworld Alliance lounges around the world.

The agreement follows a growing demand for travel between Australia and Asia, according to Qantas international CEO Alison Webster.

“It’s good news for Qantas customers who will have more travel options, greater opportunities to earn frequent flyer points, and a premium experience onboard both home carriers,” says Webster.
