Australia gets the first punch in this classic arcade remake.

Aussies gamers might get the short end of the stick with higher prices and later release dates than our American counterparts, but one area where we get the drop on the US is in the mobile game market. Many big mobile titles opt for a staggered launch across the globe, and Aussies are often the first to get their hands on these new releases.

Case in point: Puzzle Fighter, the mobile remake of the classic arcade game Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. The mash-up of Puyo Puyo-style gem matching with Capcom icons like Mega Man and Frank West is available Down Under right now, downloadable for free from the iOS App Store and Google Play.

As a free-to-play title, you don't have a whole lot to lose by giving it a go. The original game was a fantastic spin on the puzzle genre, and so long as the microtransaction component of this mobile version isn't too egregious, it should be a great time sink for lunch breaks and short commutes.

In other Aussie-exclusive news, Sony is kicking off a PlayStation 4 competition with real-life Platinum trophies up for grabs.
