PlayStation Plus brings the explosions with its August free games line-up
Set the world on fire in Just Cause 3, courtesy of PS Plus.
For all the heartfelt stories, ethical challenges and complex simulations that video games explore, sometimes you just want to sit down and blow the ever-loving bejesus out of everything in sight. For that, there are few games better than the bombastic Just Cause 3. The open-world action game is packed with more explosions than all of Michael Bay's films combined, and thanks to PlayStation Plus, PlayStation 4 owners can experience all the chaos of Just Cause 3 for free as part of next month's PS Plus free games line-up.
If you prefer a more intimate style of anarchy, you'll be glad to hear that the stealthy swashbuckling of Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry on PS4 will be joining August's line-up alongside Just Cause 3. The standalone expansion to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag follows ex-slave and now Brotherhood assassin Adewale as he sets out to squash the slave trade in the Caribbean. Like most Assassin's Creed games, this involves offing no small number of corrupt government officials and devious Templars, as well as engaging in plenty of the series' top-notch ship battles.
PS Vita owners will also get quite a treat in August, with the brilliant vertical shooter Downwell up for download. Styled to look like something out of the Gameboy era, Downwell's fast-paced action is perfect for playing on-the-go, as each descent through the game's randomly generated stages can last as little as 30 seconds if you're not careful. With a compellingly simple hook and plenty of stuff to unlock, Downwell is sure to keep a lot of Vita owners busy next month.
The full PS Plus line-up for August is listed below. As usual, PS Plus subscribers will have until the end of August to add the month's games to their library in order to keep playing them past the month's end.
