Project Cars 2 Devs Rank Mount Panorama
As Australians, we think the Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst is the duck's nuts, but what does the rest of the world think?
Project Cars 2 lands on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on 22 September. For those Australian rev heads looking to jag it day one, their first in-game destination is a no-brainer. It’s Bathurst, and the famous Mount Panorama circuit. I’ve been lucky enough to play the game extensively, and from my initial impressions I’m happy to call it the most enjoyable simulation of the track ever. Which means every gamer in the world will have the chance to properly enjoy the best track in the world.
But is it the best track in the world? I’m definitely biased, after all.

If you’re making a race simulation video game, you’re going to know all the great tracks around the world in intimate detail. So when Slightly Mad Studios toured the game to Sydney recently, I took the chance to ask race driver Nick Hamilton, and Slightly Mad Studios’ chief commercial officer Rod Chong, where they thought Mount Panorama ranked in the pantheon of great circuits.
Nick Hamilton: We'll I've never driven Bathurst in real life, only on sims, but I love the circuit. One hundred percent! It's absolutely incredible. The whole mountain section is bonkers and it's something that I would love to get the opportunity to race properly. Every time I drive it in a game I’m like, “bloody hell, this must be hard in real life,” because it’s so undulating. Especially with the condition changes, temperature changes, marbles and all that sort of stuff that goes on through a race weekend. You know, being as clinical as you can be at Bathurst must be tough. But it's definitely a challenge I would love to try one day. Bathurst has got to be up there in the top three tracks in the world.
Rod Chong: I'd say the Bathurst is definitely one of the top three tracks in the world. You can argue which is the greatest, but it's between Nordschleife, Spa and Bathurst. They’re the greatest tracks.
So what do you think? Where would you rate Mount Panorama when comparing it to the great circuits around the world? Let us know in the comments below.
