Review: What is Princeville Credit Advocates?
Princeville Credit Advocates is a credit repair service that specialises in removing incorrect black marks from credit reports and negotiating debt reduction which can help you improve your credit score and get your finances under control. At the time of writing, Princeville Credit Advocates has cleared 5,000 credit reports across Australia.
While you can contact credit reporting bureaus and credit issuers to dispute invalid listings yourself, credit repair services like Princeville Credit Advocates are experts and know who to contact. They're also familiar with the relevant consumer laws and legislation involved as well as the strategies to use. If successful, credit repair could help lift your credit score, increase your chances of approval for future lines of credit and lead to significant savings.
These services come at a cost, with fees varying depending on the service required and listings removed. However, there are no guarantees that all listings will be removed, which is important to remember when comparing your options. It's also important to remember that valid listings, such as correct defaults or credit enquiries, can't be removed from your report by a credit repair agency.
Princeville offers a complimentary assessment of your credit report to see how they can help. After this initial assessment, an expert is assigned to your case and there are three formal stages of the process to remove negative listings. The video below can help you understand these formal stages better.
How much do these credit repair services cost?
How much you'll pay will depend on the service you request, but you can compare the alternatives below:
Although you'll receive a complimentary credit report assessment, there are three formal stages to credit repair and each come at a cost.
1. Credit file assessment
The first stage involves a background and credit report assessment, and developing a removal strategy follows this. You'll be charged $500 at this stage. You’re also required to fill in an application and submit the latest copy of your credit report.
2. Investigation of bad listings
The next stage involves investigation, followed by negotiation for the removal of bad listings. At this stage, you have to approve Princeville Credit Advocates to negotiate on your behalf, and you have to pay $500 for each judgement or default that requires removal.
3. Removal of bad listings
The final stage involves the successful removal of invalid negative listings from your credit file, and at this stage you have to pay $500 per successful judgement or default removal.
If you're getting help from Princeville Credit Advocates to negotiate a default or outstanding debt, you'll be charged a $500 fixed, non-refundable fee to prepare your case to each credit issuer that you owe money to. If successful in reducing your debt to a lump sum (which is usually more than 50% of your current debt amount), you'll be charged 25% of the different.
As an example, if your debt is $10,000 and Princeville Credit Advocates can negotiate it to $5,000, the fee will be $1,250. For large debts, it can be capped at a 25% fee on a case by case basis. If you don't have a sufficient lump sum to repay a debt, Princeville Credit Advocates can also negotiate a suitable payment plan for you. These payment plans come at a cost of $300.
Pros and cons of a credit advocacy service
Before you begin the credit repair process, you should compare the benefits and drawbacks of going through a professional service:
- Remove black marks. Removing invalid black marks and defaults on your report will improve your credit score and could increase your chances of approval when applying for a line of credit such as a credit card, home loan or personal loan. A higher credit score could also result in more competitive interest rates.
- Save. If your credit report is repaired and you're offered competitive interest rates as a result, you could save significantly on repayments. Plus, if your debt is reduced following a negotiation, you could also save when repaying your debt.
- Expertise. While DIY credit repair is an option, Princeville Credit Advocates is an expert in the area and has an 83% success rate in removing negative listings from credit reports.
- Fees. Credit repair comes at a cost, so you need to ensure that the benefits outweigh the fees before you go forward.
- No guarantees. Credit advocacy services can only remove invalid marks from your report and there are no guarantees.
Princeville Credit Advocates offer a variety of services that could help get your finances in control. However, as these services come with a fee, make sure to compare your options before you decide if it's the right way to repair your credit score.
