Presto TV | Price, Features and Free Trial

Information verified correct on January 18th, 2017

Presto keeps growing in order to provide Australians with premium television series.

Presto was first introduced to the Australian audience in March of 2014 offering unlimited access to a wide variety of movies for $9.99 a month.

Thanks to its partnership with Foxtel, Presto gets its fair share of the latest TV shows and movies. Some highlights include The Walking Dead and Mr Robot, but Presto adds more and more content to its lineup every month.

So far, Presto has managed to hold its own against rival services, Stan and Netflix, by securing timely blockbusters and adding more content than it's competitors on a monthly basis.

Presto TV is a separate service from Presto Movies, however also costs $9.99 a month. Alternatively, you can choose a Presto Entertainment subscription to bundle both TV & Movies for $14.99 a month. Content for the Presto TV element includes programming from Foxtel, Seven Network, Showtime, HBO, ABC, eOne, Twentieth Century Fox and many other studios.

Presto is the only Australian internet TV provider to feature The Walking Dead and  Aquarius. Deals with HBO mean that Presto TV is the only Australian internet TV provider where you can see shows like Boardwalk Empire and Entourage. Not available though is the highly popular Game of Thrones series. Access to Showtime will allow Australians to view shows like Dexter and Ray Donovan but these can also be found through other service providers.

To use Presto, all you need is internet, data and a compatible device. Devices include mobile, tablet, laptop, PC/Mac and TV via Google Chromecast). Presto Entertainment subscription fees apply from expiry of free trial period (see below). Full Presto T&Cs apply.

Presto 1-month trial

All new customers are eligible to receive a free 1-month trial of Presto Entertainment (TV and Movies) although you will need to supply your credit card information to access these services. There is no contractual obligation, so you are free to cancel the service after your trial whenever you want. In order not to be charged the following month's service, you must cancel it BEFORE your subscribed month is complete or you will automatically be re-subscribed and charged for another month.

You also have the option to downgrade your package during the trial too, meaning you have the option to go from TV + Movies to just TV or Movies for $9.99 a month.

If you have a coupon for Presto you can use this during check-out. Simply enter the code where prompted and the dollar amount or percentage will be deducted from your total.

Streaming video with Presto

Presto provides its users with video streaming as opposed to downloading. With the use of the Chromecast device, TV series and movies are streamed to your television in continuous play. So long as your internet speed is able to support this, you should be able to watch the entire episode or movie without interruption.

One downfall to Presto is that it does not support high definition (HD) TV yet, meaning that the quality of the picture may not be as sharp as you find with other services.

Frequently asked questions

The following covers a list of frequently asked questions about Presto TV and its features, set-up, and requirements:

How fast will my internet need to be in order to use Presto?

Presto requires a minimum internet speed of 3 Mbps in order to work on your television set. You can run a speed test online to determine if your internet connection will be fast enough.

Can you change from Presto Movies to Presto TV?

Yes, you can switch services at any time. You can also choose to bundle the two and have access to both movies and television series. If you do elect to do this in the middle of an entitlement period your subscription month charges will be prorated to reflect the number of days you had left of the bundled package.

How will I be charged for Presto TV?

Having supplied your credit card information at the time you signed up, your credit card will be debited the fee automatically on a monthly basis.

How do I sign up for Presto TV?

All you need to sign up for Presto is a compatible device, Internet connection and data. Compatible devices are mobile, tablet, laptop, PC/Mac and TV via Google Chromecast. From the Presto home page click the sign up box at the top right hand corner and follow the directions as prompted. You will need an email account to verify and activate your account. Once you have chosen the subscription, click apply to enter your credit card information. Once complete you can go ahead and create your account.

Is Presto available outside of Australia?

No, only people in Australia and paying with an Australian issued credit card may use Presto. If you set up an account outside of Australia you will not be able to access it, and no refund will be given.

How many devices can I use with my Presto account?

Presto TV allows you to set up four different devices and stream on two devices simultaneously.

What devices support Presto TV?

You can watch movies and television series with Presto on TV via Chromecast, tablet, PC, laptop or mobile. Quality may vary depending on device.

How do I watch Presto on my television set?

You will need to have a Google Chromecast viewing device and Presto on your mobile device. Access Presto on your smartphone through the app and select cast on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Hit Chromecast and once connected you will see ready to cast. From this point you only need to select the video you want to watch and it will be directed towards your television set.

Can I adjust Presto to full screen mode?

Yes, all content begins in a reduced screen mode but you can expand this with the icon on the bottom right hand corner of the player. The ESC button or icon will return the screen back to the reduced size.

Can a movie or television episode be paused during play?

Yes, you can pause and rewind or restart the program at any time.

Is closed captioning available with Presto TV?

No, unfortunately you cannot get closed caption TV with Presto at this time.

Will using Presto count towards my usage quota?

Presto is unmetered if you’re using Foxtel Broadband or Telstra Fixed Broadband.  For all other ISP’s and for all mobile broadband Presto’s services are metered so watching content through them will count towards your internet quota. Therefore ISP and data charges may apply.

With Netflix being made available in Australia for 2015, other internet TV providers are working hard on improving their services and offering more variety to stay in competition in the market. Presto has already taken steps by lowering monthly subscriptions and adding content from providers like HBO and Showtime. With the number of internet TV choices growing in Australia, it will be up to you to research which ones are offering the programs you enjoy with the best quality, expanded features, and lowest price.

Last night when I tried to use Presto I received an error message “no entitlements for this user” & could not access Presto. My payments are up to date with the next one due in mid October. This is very frustrating as I’m paying for Presto but can’t access it. Please fix this for me urgently.

      Chester | September 13, 2016

      Hello Trish,

      Thanks for your question.

No Entitlement Errors is a known error that affect a small handful of customers who register through Telstra platforms. This is currently a known error that our Technical Support Team is working around the clock to resolve. We have had varying success when customer attempt the following:

Head to ‘Settings’ > ‘T-Box Information’ > ‘Reset Options’ > ‘Reset Settings’. Just be wary that you will lose your scheduled recordings but not your previous recordings

Switch off the T-box device. Then hold down the reset button (located at the bottom of your T-box device) for 2 seconds. Please note that this soft reset will lose any recordings/ scheduled recordings. I hope this works.

If you need further assistance you may contact Presto directly for more info.

      I hope this helps.

I need technical support as I cannot play movies.

Please provide telephone contact number. Presto has been charging me for the service for 10 months and I never ordered it or have used it.

      Brodie | April 11, 2016

      Hi Wayne,

Unfortunately, Presto does not have a contact number. You can contact Presto support via email here. Alternatively, you can contact Presto via Facebook or Twitter. With that said, cancelling Presto is quite simple. Just visit the Presto website, log-in to your account (using the email and password you signed up with), go to the account settings where it shows your subscription status, scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a button that lets you cancel your subscription.

      Hi Ali,

What internet browser are you using to stream Presto? In some cases, switching browsers (ie. Google Chrome to Safari or vice-versa) can provide a short term fix.

I have been using Google chrome but have tried Firefox and safari. Have also tried on my ps4 at a different house with different Internet. Proves to me there is a problem with presto

      Brodie | March 15, 2016

      Hi ALi,

Yeah, it definitely sounds like it. I would suggest getting in contact with Presto’s support team. There is a form here you can fill out for a support request, but I would recommend contacting them via their social network profiles on Facebook or Twitter.

      All the best,

How do I enlarge screen, there is no icon bottom right.

      Brodie | January 25, 2016

      Hi Wendy,

The full-screen button should be located to the left of the volume button. If it’s not appearing, I would recommend trying a different browser.

Hi, I tried to sign up for the free trial in November but the site crashed after I gave my payment details. I can’t use the account as when I request the “forgotten” password, it doesn’t go to a link. I need to either have a password or cancel this account asap. Not happy to be paying $20 per month for nothing.
    thank you.

      Brodie | January 21, 2016

      Hi Colleen,

Sounds frustrating. You’ve come through to, not Presto. Unfortunately, we can’t access your account details. I would suggest contacting Presto support about the matter or getting in touch via their Facebook or Twitter channels.

      Thank you,
