13 September 2016, Sydney, Australia – A fast internet connection doesn’t have to mean a million-dollar mortgage for would-be homebuyers, with new research by, Australia’s most visited comparison website, uncovering the cheapest suburbs in each capital city.

In fact,’s analysis of property prices against National Broadband Network hotspots reveals the most affordable suburb connected to the NBN in Australia is Risdon Vale, an outer suburb of Hobart, with an average house price of just $165,019.

In Sydney, the cheapest activated suburb is Lalor Park – where the average house price is $609,375, well below the Sydney average of $1,021,968. The research showed, in Sydney, west is best for affordable NBN housing.

For buyers house-hunting in Melbourne, Werribee is the most affordable suburb where a connected home will set you back approximately $359,250.

Alex Kidman, Telco Expert at, says the NBN has become a key selling point in the real estate market.

“There are almost three million homes and businesses across Australia which can already connect to the NBN, and only 1.1 million have taken it up. However it’s a long road for the rest of Australia who’ll need to wait until 2020 or beyond.”

“Forget the swimming pool or car space, super-fast internet tops the wish list of internet-addicted house hunters,” he says.

“Australians hungry for bandwidth can’t wait four years until the NBN is completed and would rather sell-up and move to an area that is already connected.”

“Real estate listings are already boasting fast internet connections like they would other features including a big yard or granny flat.”

Mr Kidman says gamers, online business owners and those who stream online movies were just some of those looking to move into high speed internet areas.

“There are people who can’t bear to wait for faster download speeds and are prepared to sell up and move home to benefit from the NBN now.”’s analysis shows Brisbane has the most activated suburbs, followed by Adelaide and Hobart. Sydney is worst state capital city to find a house or unit to buy with NBN connectivity.

“If an NBN connection is high on your priority list, look up the address of the property on and check for a connection before you bother with open house inspections,” says Mr Kidman.
