Port Moresby is one of those cities that tends to fall off the radar as a destination of choice. But it's actually so close to Australia that you can get there from numerous cities in three hours or less. And right now, you can get there for under $460 return.

You'll have to fly out of Cairns to snag this bargain, though you will be flying non-stop with Air Niugini on a flight that lasts just shy of 90 minutes.

This flight is available through Flight Centre, though I Want That Flight has the intel on discounted flights from other cities. For example, through I Want That Flight we found trips from Brisbane starting from $571 return on a combination of Air Niugini and Qantas, as well as trips from Sydney from $685 return with Qantas.

Travel dates vary depending on your journey. If you're flying from Cairns, the cheapest holidays are between 1 February and 31 March 2018. If you're flying from Brisbane, November is where the bargains are. Both travel periods offer comfortable temperatures in the mid-to-late 20s, though it's worth noting that January to March is the rainy season.

These prices aren't a part of any particular promotion and are available until sold out.
