Points cap cut from Woolworths Qantas Platinum credit card
You’ll still earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent at Woolworths, but half this many points everywhere else.
Woolworths Qantas Platinum credit card holders can say goodbye to its points cap from today. Unfortunately, changes to the Qantas Points earn rates will also mean that you earn fewer points outside of Woolies.
From today, the Woolworths Qantas Platinum credit card earn rate will no longer reduce from 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent to 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent after you spend $2,500 each statement period. And while you can still earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent at Woolworths and Woolworths Group stores (such as Big W, Caltex Woolworths co-branded fuel outlets, BWS, Dan Murphy's and Cellarmasters) in store and online, you'll only earn 0.5 Qantas Points for every $1 spent on all other eligible purchases.
So, although you’ll have greater points potential at Woolworths without the points cap, the number of points you’ll earn per $1 spent will drop everywhere else. The impact of these rewards changes will depend on where you shop the most and how much you spend at Woolworths.
Despite the earn rate changes, this card offers an easy way to give your frequent flyer balance a boost on everyday expenses. For example, if your weekly shop at Woolies is usually $150, paying with this card would give you an extra 7,800 Qantas Points per year. Plus, if you have a Woolworths Rewards card, you can double dip and transfer your Woolworths Rewards to Qantas Points to maximise your frequent flyer points at the checkout. You can transfer 2,000 Woolworths Rewards for 870 Qantas Points, which roughly boils down to 0.43 Qantas Points per $1 spent at the supermarket. You can use our points calculator to see how many Qantas Points you could earn based on how much you spend at Woolworths and its partner stores.
These new earn rate changes will apply to both new and existing Woolworths Qantas Platinum cardholders. Despite the altered earn rates, the card still has an annual fee of $99 for the first year and $169 p.a. every year after that.
Although this card is still rewarding for Woolworths customers, there are a number of other cards that offer 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on all eligible purchases (not just purchases with partnered retailers). However, a points cap will often apply. You can check out our guide to Qantas Frequent Flyer credit cards to compare more ways you can earn Qantas Points on your plastic.
