Leading the pack is Media Molecule's paper-thin platformer Tearaway Unfolded on PlayStation 4. Tearaway follows one of two papercraft messengers, Iota or Atoi, on its journey to deliver an important message. The original Tearaway experimented with the PS Vita's rear touch pad and gyroscope features like no other title had. Its successor gives the same treatment to the PS4's DualShock 4 controller.

Also on PlayStation 4 is the frisbee-flinging sports game Disc Jam. Disc Jam looks like the over-the-shoulder version of the NEO-GEO classic Windjammers (which is also being ported to PS4 and Vita). Disc Jam's gameplay looks to be a frenetic blend of tennis and table hockey with simplistic controls. It has the potential to be a competitive hit if it manages to grab an audience. Going free on PlayStation Plus is definitely a good start.

The most exciting addition to this list is the criminally under-exposed Severed. Drinkbox Studio's touch-based action-adventure was a game built from the ground up for the failing and neglected handheld PS Vita. By the time it was finally released in April of 2016, the PlayStation Vita was almost dead and buried. If you've still got your hands on Sony's last portable system, pick up Severed today.

Those PlayStation 3 romantics out there can get their mitts on the insane bug-squashing shooter Earth Defence Force 2025 and the isometric adventure Lumo is available for both PS4 and Vita via cross-play.
