Mad Max gets gritty in April’s PlayStation Plus free games line-up

Matt Sayer 29 March 2018 NEWS

Burn rubber across a post-apocalyptic Australia with the latest batch of free games heading to PS4, PS3 and Vita.

Australia doesn't get too many opportunities to feature in big-budget AAA games these days. Despite the varied landscape and iconic locales our country has to offer, it just doesn't get the representation it's due.

April's PlayStation Plus free games line-up attempts to change that... sort of. Next month sees the gritty open-world adventure Mad Max lead the charge through a barren, post-apocalyptic Australia ravaged by sandstorms and raiders alike. Sure, it's not quite the vibrant country we know and love, but it's nevertheless a compelling title that blends third-person brawling with fast-paced car combat to deliver an experience quite unlike anything else out there.

Taking a more global approach to virtual mayhem is April's second PlayStation Plus title, Trackmania Turbo. Throwing you behind the wheel of magnetically-charged buggies, blindingly-fast F1 cars and hulking hotrods, Trackmania Turbo is all about delivering the most frenetic arcade racing experience you can imagine. With massive jumps, loop-de-loops and the kind of gravity-defying stunts that would turn even the hardiest of stomachs, it's a refreshing change from the many simulations that have dominated the driving game landscape recently.

Owners of Sony's other systems aren't left in the cold during April, either, with PS3 players scoring In Space We Brawl and Toy Home. Meanwhile, those with a PS Vita can enjoy the classic beat 'em up stylings of 99 Vidas and the nostalgic action of Q*Bert Rebooted.
