PlayStation 5 Australian release date
12 November is the date to mark in your calendar if you're planning to purchase the PlayStation 5 on day one. Sony noted that the console will launch later in some markets, presumably due to supply issues. Fortunately, Australia is definitely included in the 12 November launch rollout. (Hurrah!)
A bunch of retailers already have set up PlayStation 5 pre-order landing pages, including the Sony Store. Pre-orders are expected to officially open tomorrow.
PlayStation 5 Australian pricing
Sony will be releasing two consoles at launch: the standard edition and an all-digital version that lacks an optical disc drive (otherwise, the specifications are identical).
Here's the official Australian pricing for the PlayStation 5 consoles from Sony:
PlayStaton 5: $749.95
PlayStaton 5 Digital Edition: $599.95
After factoring in GST, currency conversion and US after-sales tax, this works out very similar to the American pricing of $499 and $399. There's no extra "Australia Tax" to worry about for once.
The price of the standard console is in line with the Xbox Series X which will cost $749 at launch. (Microsoft is also releasing a lower-spec machine dubbed Xbox Series S which is a more competitive at $499.)
PlayStation Plus Collection
In addition to some new game announcements including God Of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy XVI, Sony also unveiled a new games service called PlayStation Plus Collection.
This is a library of PlayStation 4 classics that will be free to download and play. Confirmed titles include God of War, Bloodborne, Days Gone, Persona 5, Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 7 and The Last Guardian. All games will be available to download at launch.
The full list of PlayStation Plus Collection games available at launch is as follows:
- Batman: Arkham Knight
- Battlefield 1
- Bloodborne
- Days Gone
- Detroit: Become Human
- Fallout 4
- Final Fantasy XV
- God of War
- Infamous: Second Son
- The Last Guardian
