Phuket flights from $289 return

Low-season fares at a bang-on budget price.

Scoot Airlines is running a sale on flights to sunny Phuket, ditching the dollars down as low as $289 return on flights out of Perth.

Outside of Perth, you're looking at flights for under $360 return from most major cities. For example, flights out of Gold Coast start from $339, out of Melbourne from $359 and out of Sydney from $360.

As Scoot is a budget airline, these are "seat-only" fares and if you'd like to include luggage or in-flight meals, you will have to pay extra.

If you can do without, you'll be singing all the way to the bank on these delicious prices.

Travel is available from May to September. For those who enjoy the sunshine, unfortunately this sits just inside the cloud cover being wet season, which rightly explains the cheap fare. If you'd like the best of both worlds, don't fall into the trap of booking May flights as this is not only the hottest, but also the wettest month. Instead, look for flights from June to August as these months aren't quite as rainy and you can bag yourself bargains from flights to hotels due to the low season.

How good are these fares?

Being low-season, you'd think you'd be touching bottom dollar with these fares but while anything under $300 return to Phuket is good, we have seen better. For example, last year we saw Jetstar flights plummet down to $204 return during the rainy season. So while these are cheap they're definitely not the cheapest you can get if you hold out for the right sale and the right airline.

If you're willing to spend a little more, you can also find flights during the dry season from $319 return through Flight Centre which isn't too much of a splurge for the chance to soak up those rays.
