What is Phantasma?

SOUL is the native cryptocurrency of the Phantasma ecosystem. Marketed at the “next generation” of blockchains, Phantasma is a layer-1 blockchain developed to become a “single-source solution for developers and users.” The protocol specialises in SmartNFTs and decentralised gaming applications, which take advantage of Phantasma’s high throughput of 5000 transactions per second (tps). High throughput is achieved thanks to the potential for an infinite number of sidechains within the ecosystem and a native set of data oracles built directly into the infrastructure. In addition to high speeds, Phantasma has focused on interoperability and currently connects with Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain and Neo blockchains.

According to Phantasma’s whitepaper, the Phantasma blockchain implements a dual token configuration that is designed to be future proof. SOUL is the governance token of the network, while KCAL provides utility within the ecosystem. SOUL token holders can stake the token within the Phantasma ecosystem to unlock voting power and influence governance decisions. In addition to governance control, SOUL holders can access storage space on the protocol’s decentralised storage solution, and earn KCAL rewards. As KCAL is the cryptocurrency required to pay for all transactions within the network, SOUL token holders can effectively benefit from free transactions. Furthermore, staking at least 50,000 SOUL will earn users the title of Soul Master, earning extra allocation from a pool of 125,000 SOUL distributed per month and a CROWN non-fungible token (NFT) every three months. The CROWN NFT holds a percentage of Phantasma’s total KCAL fees for the previous three months as well as 20% of the network’s incentive allocation.
