What policies does 1300 Insurance offer?

Comprehensive pet insurance

Comprehensive pet insurance from 1300 Insurance provides up to $15,000 cover per year for any vet bills that arise when your animal is sick or injured. Offering cover for both injury and illness, this policy covers up to 75% of eligible vet bills with no excess. You have the freedom to use any registered vet around Australia and be covered for cancer, ear and eye conditions, infectious diseases, gastrointestinal problems and tick paralysis.

Accident-only pet insurance

This policy makes sure that your pet and your wallet are protected against unexpected accidents. It covers up to 75% of eligible vet bills, up to a maximum of $10,000 per year, when your dog or cat suffers an accidental injury. This includes cover for everything from vet consultations to surgery and hospitalisations.

What isn’t covered?

Your pet insurance claim will not be covered in the following situations:

  • It is for a pre-existing condition.
  • It is for dental procedures or the treatment of any dental disease.
  • It is for the cost of regular, prescription or dietary pet food.
  • It is for preventative procedures and treatments such as vaccinations, anal gland expression, and flea/tick/worm control. However, cover is available for some of these procedures if you select the routine care benefit.
  • It is for the cost of training, socialisation, therapy or alternative therapies.
  • It is for the cost of treatment resulting from your pet being used for commercial or occupational purposes, for example for racing, breeding or law enforcement.
  • It is for the treatment of certain conditions that can be attributed to behavioural problems, for example phobias and anxiety disorders.
  • It is for stem cell therapy.
  • It is for the cost of medication not approved or listed by the APVMA (Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medication Authority).
  • You choose to pursue a course of treatment other than that recommended by your vet.
  • It is for breeding or obstetrics.
  • It is for elective procedures and treatments.
  • You fail to take all reasonable precautions to protect your pet from situations that may result in illness or injury.
  • It is due to a malicious or deliberate act or gross negligence caused by you or someone living with you.
  • It is for ambulance fees and non-essential hospitalisation.
  • It is for house calls and out-of-hours treatment unless your vet believes an emergency consultation is necessary.

How to file a claim with 1300 Insurance

You can lodge a claim on your 1300 Insurance pet insurance policy in two ways:

  • Online. You can lodge your claim online through the 1300 Insurance website. You will need to upload a copy of the itemised invoice and consultation notes from your vet visit. If this is your first claim, you will also need to upload your pet’s full medical history for the time you have owned it.
  • By post. You can download and print a claim form from the 1300 Insurance website. Your vet will also need to fill out a section of the form before you submit it by post along with original itemised invoices, payment receipts and your vet’s consultation notes.

You must submit a claim so that it is received within 90 days of your pet’s treatment.

Frequently asked questions about 1300 Insurance pet insurance

Yes, the only requirement to taking out accident-only pet insurance is that your pet must be at least eight weeks of age. However, if you want to take out comprehensive cover, the pet must be less than nine years of age when you apply for a policy. Once insured, 1300 Insurance will continue to cover your pet for the rest of its life.

Your vet will be able to help you make an informed guess as to your pet’s age.

Cover for the cost of desexing your dog or cat is available if you take out comprehensive cover and select the routine care option.

Yes, you will receive a 5% discount for each additional dog or cat you cover with 1300 Insurance.

There are two waiting periods that apply:

  • 30 days for conditions covered under the illness and tick paralysis sections of the policy
  • 6 months for cruciate ligament conditions

If any signs or symptoms of a condition occur or the condition exists in any form before you take out cover or during the waiting period, it will be classed as a pre-existing condition.

Yes, a 21-day cooling-off period applies to cover. This means you can cancel your policy within the first 21 days and receive a full refund.
