What is Persistence?

XPRT is the native cryptocurrency of the Persistence Protocol. Launched in 2020, Persistence is a blockchain-based protocol focused on bridging the gap between cryptocurrencies and real-world assets, with a view to solving the inefficiencies involving cross border payments and business financing. The protocol aims to blend the best features of decentralised finance (DeFi), open finance (OpFi), and centralised finance (CeFi) to offer next-generation financial products. The four main products offered by Persistence include liquid staking, staking-as-a-service, a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace, and synthetics trading.

According to the project’s blog, all decentralised applications are built on top of the Persistence Chain. The Persistence Chain(s) is composed of a network of business-specific chains secured by the Persistence mainnet - a blockchain hub that runs on a Delegated-Proof-of-Stake (dPoS) model. The mainnet blockchain was developed using the Tendermint consensus model, native to the Cosmos ecosystem. Utilising the capabilities of the Persistence Chain, businesses can access DeFi and the ability to borrow cryptocurrency assets while using real-world assets as collateral. The blockchain allows businesses to tokenise real-world assets to NFTs. The NFTs can then be traded against stablecoins or used as collateral for stablecoin loans. XPRT serves as a governance and utility token of the network. All token holders can submit or vote on proposals that, ultimately, control the network’s evolution. Token holders may also delegate XPRT to the top validators within the network to earn staking rewards. With regards to utility, XPRT serves as a “work token” used to participate in all economic activities involving Persistence decentralised application (dApps).
