Optus home broadband goes unlimited, brings back mobile bundling

Optus is giving its customers unlimited data on all new home broadband bundles and bringing back discounts for mobile customers.

Australia's second-largest telco has launched a new range of unlimited home broadband plans. From today, new and existing customers are eligible for three revamped NBN and ADSL2+ broadband plans and two unlimited DSL plans, dubbed Reach Basics and Reach Entertainment.

While the additional voice and entertainment inclusions remain the same, each revamped plan comes with unlimited data. This is a step forward in the right direction, though it's worth noting Optus was already offering unlimited data on every broadband plan with the exception of its Basics range.

What is interesting is Optus' move to reintroduce bundling discounts for broadband customers with a mobile service. This is an offer that has been sorely missed by customers with multiple services through Optus. The new $20 discount is available to Optus customers with a monthly mobile phone plan or SIM plan. What that means is that it's not open to prepaid mobile and prepaid SIM-only customers. Optus Thuraya, Optus Fleet and Optus Corporate customers are also excluded from the offer.

How Optus Unlimited stacks up against the competition

Optus Broadband plans are competitively priced when stacked up against the competition. However, the new range of plans are only available on 24-month contracts, whereas other players offer more flexible month-to-month contracts. With that said, the attractive new mobile bundle discount will knock an extra $20 off your monthly total, which puts Optus even further ahead of the competition.

We've compared internet plans from Optus, TPG, Belong, Mate and more, but to give you a glance at how the new range from Optus stacks up, we've compared them with similar plans below.
