Optus announces next 50 5G sites

Optus is rolling out more 5G across Melbourne and Sydney.
We're still waiting for consumer availability of actual 5G connectivity here in Australia, with Optus and Telstra jostling for first-mover advantage. Optus has today announced its first 50 5G sites using Ericsson technology, to be built in the coming months.
If you're hanging out for 5G in places that aren't Sydney or Melbourne, we've got some bad news for you, because all 50 are located within either the New South Wales or Victorian capital cities.
Those who are fond of the endless Sydney/Melbourne rivalry may want to note that it's not a 50/50 split of sites, either. Optus will build out 30 sites in Melbourne as part of the rollout, while the remaining 20 will be dotted around Sydney's suburbs.
It's part of an effort to roll out 1,200 5G sites by March 2020. Those won't all be in Sydney and Melbourne either, with Optus promising coverage in the ACT, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
Optus has already announced its first 5G product will be Optus 5G home broadband, which you can read about here.
