Optus adds super-sized mobile plan ahead of iPhone 6s launch
20GB of data a month is the new battleground.
9 September 2015: Just one day before the expected announcement of Apple's iPhone 6s, Optus has added a new option to its my Plan Plus contract phone plans, with a generous 20GB of data.
The new $135 a month plan includes 16GB as standard, but Optus will raise that to 20GB per month for any customers who sign up before December. All Optus' contract plans include unlimited calls and texts to Australian numbers.
Here's the full current range of Optus contract plans and what they'll cost over a 24-month period:
Cost | Data | AU calls | AU texts | Total cost |
---|---|---|---|---|
$40 | 1GB | Unlimited | Unlimited | $960 |
$60 | 3GB | Unlimited | Unlimited | $1,440 |
$80 | 6GB | Unlimited | Unlimited | $1,920 |
$100 | 10GB | Unlimited | Unlimited | $2,400 |
$135 | 15GB/20GB | Unlimited | Unlimited | $3,240 |
Vodafone made a similar move earlier in the week, launching a 20GB plan which costs $130 a month. Right now, Optus and Vodafone have essentially identical contract phone plans, save that Vodafone's top plan is $5 a month cheaper. Telstra's $135 a month XXL plan is considerably less generous, with a straight 10GB of data each month (half what its rivals are offering at that price) and no current bonus offers.
I am currently with TPG but my mobile phone does not work well. What does the $40 pm plan offer that will match or better the TPG plan as I need a new phone.
Hi Glenda,
If you let me know what TPG plan you are on, I can offer some alternatives with similar usage.
Cheers,
Brodie
