Beauty product of the week: Only Good Balance Body Wash
This soap-free body wash actually helped me sleep better.
Here in the finder office, we receive a fair few products to try and this is one that has particularly stood out for me. The brand, Only Good is a company out of New Zealand which promises products that are gentler on the skin and are nice to the environment too.
They're not tested on animals, are free from petrochemicals and (this is the big one for me) are completely free from palm oil. The harvesting of palm oil in many regions requires the deforestation and ruination of the habitats of orangutans and their numbers are declining very rapidly. I have a particular soft spot for orangutans so this was a big selling point for me.
I was immediately drawn to this body wash by the blend of ingredients. It's formulated with rosehip, chamomile and ylang ylang, three of my favourite skincare ingredients. Anyone who knows me will know I rave about rosehip, it contains a natural kind of retinoid which is great for skin repair. Chamomile is known for being soothing and calming and since I like to shower at night this works well for me. Finally, ylang ylang is just about one of my favourite smells. I often burn essential oils and ylang ylang is always my pick.
Another interesting feature of this range is that it's soap free. At 27 I am acutely aware that I need to be careful with my skin now and not dry it out too much or else time will catch up with my skin faster than I'd like. So a non-drying, soap-free body wash is ideal.
I've been using it for about a week now and just as I thought, I really love the smell. Smell is certainly one of the most important features of a body wash since its fragrance will linger on your skin for most of the day. And I truly love the smell of this blend.
I've even found that it's been helping me fall asleep a little easier since the scent is so subtle and relaxing. It certainly hasn't been drying my skin out and yet it doesn't leave me with that slimy feeling you get from those overly moisturising body washes on the market.
If you're looking for something slightly more exciting than the stock standard washes at the supermarket, this is definitely something I'd recommend. And if you're not into this particular ylang ylang blend, know that the brand has three other blends to choose from.
Affordability
At $8.99 this body wash is the same price as most of the supermarket brands but it's a whole lot better for your skin and the environment. It's actually cheaper than a few of the supermarket brands.
Where you can buy it
