Real Estate

Thinking of moving careers? Or perhaps you’re about to begin your career and are thinking of building it on real estate?

Either way, we’ve searched the market and found some of the best courses available online.

Why should I study real estate?

It’s hard to turn on a television or read a newspaper at the moment without hearing something about the rise in property prices in Australia. For most of us this is bad news, but if you work in the real  estate sector then this is a golden age. However, if you’re considering a career in real estate, don’t spend your millions just yet. real estate is really hard work. It takes long hours, thick skin, a head for numbers and a fearless sales attitude.

It also requires studying and licensing, so get ready to hit the books. Luckily, we’ve made it easier to find a course than it is to find a one bedroom in the Sydney CBD under a million (you’ll look back at that and laugh when you’re a qualified real estate agent).

What are the courses for real estate ?

real estate is more a field of licensing and experience, than qualifications, and as a result there are fewer options at undergraduate and postgraduate level for online study. However, there are a wealth of short and professional development courses available, as well as ways to get state appropriate licenses. Have a look at the courses below for more information.

Undergraduate courses

There are few bachelors courses available in property, that can be exclusively studied online. If you’re interested in gaining this qualification, and want a few more options, you could research whether full time, on campus study is viable in your situation. Otherwise check out the courses below.

  • Bachelor of property and real estate at Deakin University.
  • Bachelor of property and real estate/Bachelor of commerce at Deakin University.
  • Bachelor of property and real estate/Bachelor of laws at Deakin University.
Postgraduate courses

Again, there aren’t a great deal of options for postgraduate or master degree study, but if you’re seriously interested in reaching the top of the property ladder, then why not have a look at the courses below.

  • Master of property at Univeristy of Newcastle.
  • Diploma of property services (agency management) at TAFE.
Short courses and professional development

There are a lot more options available in short study or professional development, and particularly in the relevant licensing. If you’re looking for short course to spice up your CV or about to start working in your state, check out the courses below, and be sure you’re up to date.

What are the tuition fees and other expenses to study real estate?

Even with a fairly few courses available there is still a large amount of variety in the prices. For example, the Bachelor of property and real estate at Deakin University is expected to cost around $9,793 per year of study, while the Certificate of real estate and property management at Australian Online Courses will cost between $499 and $699.

Whatever course you take, when you want to begin working you’ll probably need to apply for a license to work in your state. There are specific licenses available for specific duties and roles, so check with your state what license you’ll need to start work well in advance so you know what to expect.

What are the best institutes in Australia to study real estate?

As I mentioned above, there are fewer options available for the study of real estate than for other fields, so depending on your level of study you might not have a range of choices. It is advisable to have a hard think about what job you want to do after your studies, and ensure that you get qualifications that suit that role. You will also need a real estate licence for the state you want to practice in, in fact, if you’ve got solid experience and the right attitude, this might be all you need. As always, research as much as you can before you make any decisions.

What are the career opportunities for real estate?

The career paths for real estate are slightly more narrow than some of the other fields we’ve reviewed here as all of the available jobs are obviously very linked to the property market. Though within this there are opportunities for sales representatives, property managers, property valuers, or even property developers.

Average Salary

A real estate agent earns an average salary of $48,335 per annum.

You’ve got to have a real passion for the job though, as it is a fiercely competitive, and it often pays on commission. Still if you’re suited for it, it is a field that will reward you for your hard work.
