This double-duty hair butter is a surprising care and repair winner.

Why we love this product

Not just another batch of anti-frizz and smoothing haircare products, the OGX Coconut Curls range has been formulated to promote and encourage natural curls – not smooth them away.

As someone who prefers to rock their curls rather than ironing them away, more out of laziness than anything else, I was very keen to try a product designed to actually help my hair hold curl – hopefully a frizz free one.

The Curling Hair Butter, just part of the OGX Coconut Curls range, is an interesting product because it can be used in two different ways. You can leave it in your hair after a shower like a regular anti-frizz product. Or, alternatively, you can use this product instead of your regular hair conditioner and rinse it out after a few minutes. Made from key ingredients such as shea butter, coconut and honey, this treatment really is just like butter for your hair.

I tried using it both ways and found that it was super effective at calming fly-aways and frizz. As a leave-in product, it smooths away dry ends and calms even the frizziest sections of my hair. The texture and consistency is quite heavy (literally butter), so you don't need too much. I found it gave me smooth, curling waves that were frizz-resistant for several days.

I must say, that I generally prefer to use this product as a conditioner supplement. I let it sit in wet hair for about three to four minutes before gently rinsing it out. I lightly towel-dried my hair and then left it to air-dry completely. The result was ultra-shiny, bouncy curls. I think this is because your hair is far less weighed down by the butter and thus my curls ended up far more lush and springy. And I still saw the smoothing and nourishing effects on dried and split ends, without needing to leave the product in.

All in all, I really love this product. On super humid days when I know my hair will be a frizzy nightmare, I will use this as a leave-in product for extra protection. But on other days, I will try it as a wash-out product for a bouncier look. It's so refreshing to find a haircare product that allows me to customise my look – plus it smells like a rich summery, coconutty dream.

At $17.99, I think this is a reasonably priced product considering the 187g quantity.

Where you can buy it?

OGX is available at Priceline and at selected Woolworths supermarkets.
