Parramatta Eels 2021 TV schedule, squad and team guide

The Eels have been on an upward trend in recent years without taking that final leap. The time is nigh.

Parramatta fans are sick and tired of hearing about the club's 35-year-old premiership drought but rest assured, the media will keep reminding them until it's broken. For the players and coach Brad Arthur, it's an external pressure they would be feeling, even though they might not admit it publicly.

As the chief playmaker, number seven Mitchell Moses is under the most pressure to deliver and silence the critics who say he doesn't have the game-breaking class to lead the Eels to the promised land.

The Eels will be bitterly disappointed with the manner of their finals exit last year, going out in straight sets following losses to eventual premiers Melbourne and then the Rabbitohs. Once again the high hopes of their long-suffering fans were crushed in a heartbeat.

The club's top 17 will be similar to last year, although centre Michael Jennings is still suspended over a drugs charge. Ex-Warrior Isaiah Papali'i will be a handy buy to beef up the forward pack. Expect the Eels to again push for a top-four spot.

Parramatta Eels history

Beginning life at the top level in 1947, Parramatta's only true era of success came in the late 1970s and early 1980s. And what an era they enjoyed. Losing grand finals in 1976 and 1977, they reeled off 3 straight premierships from 1981–1983 and added another in 1986.

Since then fans have had to endure plenty of lean years mixed with the odd highlight. They lost the 2009 grand final to a Storm team that was later stripped of the title over salary cap breaches. Parramatta were then punished for their own salary cap infringements in 2016.

They surprised many by sticking with coach Brad Arthur even after their terrible 2018 campaign, when they collected the wooden spoon. They have been eliminated in the second week of the finals for the past two years.
