You can now use WhatsApp on the Nokia 8110
Nokia's simple feature phone sure is getting a lot of features.
You'd expect the typical buyer of HMD Global's Nokia 8110 4G to be more keen on a phone that wasn't packed with "smartphone" features. It's very much a deliberate throwback device, right down to its contoured shape – it's either the Matrix phone or the Banana phone, depending on your frame of reference – with an appealingly low price point to match.
Still, HMD Global did ship it with just a few key Internet-age apps, and it's today announced that WhatsApp compatibility has come to its keypad-enabled phone via the inbuilt KaiOS store.
Now, just like any other social media app on a phone that uses T9 predictive text input, replying to WhatsApp messages on your Nokia 8110 might be a bit of a chore. There's scope here if you're more of a group lurker than a frequent WhatsApp chatterer, presumably. Or maybe you just have to really want it more by typing in a much more cumbersome way.

Nokia was expected to announce a fresh throwback phone at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but opted not to, instead releasing a new 2.5G phone that we won't see here in Australia until Nokia at least upgrades it to 3G.
