Every game shown at Nintendo’s E3 2018 presentation

Matt Sayer 13 June 2018 NEWS

A release date and a name for the new Super Smash Bros. made this year's Nintendo E3 show an absolute must-watch.

Nintendo took its usual approach at E3 2018 by rolling out another short and sweet Nintendo Direct stream. The Switch was the focus this time around, with a solid 20+ games shown off for the massively popular hybrid console.

By far the biggest highlight of the show was the proper reveal of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the long-awaited Switch debut of the lauded mash-up fighting game. Game director Masahiro Sakurai went into a deep, deep dive on just what makes this new entry different from previous ones, and in short: it's characters. For the first time ever, every single character ever to feature in a Super Smash Bros. game will be playable, from staples like Mario and Link to cameo characters like Cloud from Final Fantasy, Ryu from Street Fighter and Snake from Metal Gear Solid.

Of course, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn't just re-treading old ground. Along with the previously-teased additions of the Inklings from Splatoon, the fire-breathing dragon Ridley from Metroid will make his first appearance in the fighting game. Link, Mario and Fox have seen some significant changes, too, with new moves based on their latest games.

Perhaps the biggest news, though, was the announcement of a release date for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: 7 December 2018. Not long to wait, then, for what will surely be one of the Switch's most popular multiplayer games.

Beyond the Smash deep dive, Nintendo showed off a whole bunch of other impressive games coming to the Switch. Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Fortnite, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Overcooked 2 were just some of the titles on display, and you can see what they have in store for yourself by checking out the trailers below:
