Nintendo Classic Mini

Nintendo's latest games console isn't the highly anticipated NX. It's a retro delight dubbed the Nintendo Classic Mini NES, which will offer 30 preloaded classics when it launches in November.

While the entire country is marching around the country with their smartphones out playing Pokémon GO, Nintendo has been hard at work at delivering its next console. And in a bit of a shock to fans who were anticipating news on the upcoming NX device, the next piece of hardware from Nintendo heads back to the company's roots.

The Nintendo Classic Mini console looks like a miniaturised NES, with some updated connections thrown in to keep things current. Launching in Australia on November 10 for an RRP of $99.95, the Nintendo Classic Mini NES has 30 classic games pre-loaded in the device.

The package comes with an HDMI cable in the box for easy connecting to your TV, a USB cable for powering the system and a single Nintendo Classic Mini controller. Additional controllers will be available separately for $19.95, though both the Classic Controller and the Classic Controller Pro for the Wii can be used as well.

Similarly, the Nintendo Classic Mini controller can be used to play NES games on the Virtual Console of the Wii or Wii U.

The full collection of bundled NES titles is full of Hall-of-Fame level classics as well as nostalgia-laden triumphs, as you can see from the list below:

It’s sold out in Australia at both JB-HIFI and EB games….will it be available from November 10 at any other outlets?

      Hi Lisa,

Nintendo hasn’t announced a full list of retailers for the retro console, so we can’t confirm where it will be available when it officially launches yet. That may change as the launch date gets closer though.

      Thanks
      Nick

Can the Mini NES be bought online?

      Hi Bj,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

There’s little or no information yet about getting Nintendo Mini NES from online retailers since the gaming console sell like hotcakes in retail stores. You may try your luck finding one at eBay but at highly inflated prices, like this one. The better bet would either be checking Target or Big W.

      Cheers,
      Jason
