Nine Network 9Jumpin | Troubleshooting, installation and FAQs

Keep up to date with all your favourite Channel Nine shows at 9Jumpin.

9Jumpin is the online catch-up TV portal of the Nine Network. Nine is one of Australia’s largest free-to-air commercial television networks and has been broadcasting since 1956. With headquarters in Willoughby, Sydney, Nine is regularly one of the country’s top two rating television networks.

9Jumpin originally began life as a social media app but was relaunched in 2013 to allow viewers to watch full episodes of their favourite Nine shows. From The Big Bang Theory to House Husbands and the NRL and AFL Footy Shows, 9Jumpin allows people to never miss an episode and catch up on any shows they may have missed.

Streaming on 9Jumpin

Streaming allows you to watch your shows without having to wait. While in days past you had to wait for a large file to download to your hard drive before you could watch a video, streaming lets you watch your video file as the data is transferred - ie, in real time.  With 9Jumpin, you can stream Nine programs to your PC, tablet or smartphone with ease.

Just like the free-to-air Nine Network, 9Jumpin offers a wide variety of Australian, American and British programs for viewers. There are sitcoms, dramas, reality shows, lifestyle programs, entertainment shows and much more. Some of the popular programs you can watch include:

  • The Big Bang Theory
  • 2 Broke Girls
  • The AFL Footy Show
  • The NRL Footy Show
  • Love Child
  • Hot Seat
  • Hamish and Andy
  • Getaway
  • Person of Interest
  • RPA
  • The Block

You can watch the latest episodes of shows currently screening, or you can catch up on some of your old favourites. As an example, there’s a massive 225 episodes of McLeod’s Daughters available for viewing. You can search for shows in your favourite genre - sport, comedy and travel are just a few of the options - or browse recently added or soon to expire programs.

The best part about 9Jumpin is that, just like the catch-up TV services offered by other free-to-air television networks in Australia, its entirely free to use. There are no subscription fees and you don’t have to sign up for an account - just click on a video and away you go. However, keep in mind that you will have to sit through some advertisements in order to watch your shows.

Frequently asked questions

What channels and shows can I watch on 9Jumpin?

9Jumpin allows you to watch shows from Nine, GEM and GO! For a full list of available programs, head to 9jumpin.com.au and browse the A to Z directory of programs.

When are shows put on 9Jumpin.com.au?

You’ll need to wait for your show to air on TV before it will be added to the website, remembering that some shows will air a few a few hour later in different parts of the country. As a general rule, shows will be loaded by midday on the day following when they air on TV. How long they’ll then stay on the site varies, but expiry dates are clearly listed for all programs.

What technical requirements will my computer need to meet to let me watch a video?

You’ll need an up-to-date Internet browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox will all work fine) and the latest version of Flash installed on your PC. Another crucial component is a decent broadband internet connection - this will ensure your videos load quickly and screen without interruption.

How much of my download limit will I use when I watch a video?

Watching a 22-minute show (The Big Bang Theory for example) will use approximately 300MB of data, while a 42-minute program (with ads, this would screen for an hour on free-to-air TV) will use roughly 600MB. Check with your ISP to make sure you won’t exceed your monthly download limit. It’s also worth mentioning that if you have a slow internet connection, 9Jumpin will stream your program at a lower quality and therefore consume less of your download limit.

Why aren’t all the shows from Nine, GEM and GO! on 9Jumpin?

This is because 9Jumpin needs to secure the online rights to each program before it can offer them on its online catch-up service. If a show’s not on the website, chances are that 9Jumpin doesn’t own the online rights.

Can I watch 9Jumpin videos when I’m outside Australia?

No. Videos on 9jumpin.com.au can only be watched from within Australia.

Why won’t my 9Jumpin video work?

Check to see if you have ad blocker software on your web browser that is blocking your video. You may need to disable this software in order to watch your video. More troubleshooting advice is available at 9jumpin.com.au

I want to download the 9Jumpin app for my device - how much does it cost?

The app is free to download and run.

Will 9Jumpin work on my iPhone or iPad?

Yes, you can watch programs through the 9Jumpin app for iPhone and iPad. Simply download the app for free from the App Store and you can start watching.

What is the reminder feature in the 9Jumpin app used for?

This allows you to set a reminder when your favourite shows are about to be shown on TV. An alarm will go off five minutes before your program is about to start so that you don’t miss any of the action.

How do I find the show I’m looking for at 9Jumpin.com.au?

You can either browse the A to Z listing of available shows or search for your program in the box provided.

I tried watching channel 9 Catch up via my smart TV, not through the app. Trying to watch it at prime too, I always get the HTTP 504 server error. It’s not my end, I can watch Netflix’s and other channel catch ups, just not channel 9. After about 9:30 though, it works. I don’t do anything different, so can only assume it’s an issue on channel 9′s end?
We have Ethernet cable connected right to the TV.

      Hi Linda,

      Thank you for your enquiry,

Getting an HTTP 504 Server error would mostly mean that there was a problem with the communication between your Internet connection and channel 9′s server. Either it’s taking too long for channel 9′s server to respond or it’s down.
Most of the time, it would not be an issue from your end, but refreshing your Internet connection by restarting your TV or your network devices like your modem, router or gateway could sometimes help resolve the concern.

      Hi Pip,

Free-to-air apps like these are often riddled with issues on smart tvs. I would recommend deleting both apps and reinstalling them.

I cant find 9jumpin in my playstore and have used it many times before on my sansubg tablet and now have a new tablet can you help

      Alex | July 7, 2016

      Hi Jennifer,

If an app isn’t coming up on a given Android device, it’s usually a sign that it’s not compatible with that device — this is a feature built into Android so users don’t accidentally install incompatible apps. So unfortunately it sounds like you might not be able to use 9Jumpin on your new tablet right now, but it may be worth periodically checking, because an update to the app could bring compatibility with it.

I’m trying to play programs on the 9Now app on iPhone and iPad. I can’t get anything to play. The white triangular play button in the bottom left hand corner doesn’t appear to be lit up and I’m therefore unable to press it in order to play the program. How best to troubleshoot this?

      Hi Leed,

The 9Jumpin app is troublesome. I would recommend deleting it and reinstalling it.

I have the 9jumpin app on my iPhone, it’s been fine until now, all of a sudden when I open up the TV guide to see what’s on TV, I can’t tell what channel I’m looking at because all the channel icons have disappeared from the left hand side of the screen

      Brodie | December 30, 2015

      Hi Gayle,

Many users have reported trouble with the 9jumpin application. Can I ask, do the channels re-appear if you change the orientation of your handset (e.g. portrait to landscape)?

When I access the ‘guide’ section of the 9 jump in app there is no channel list on the left hand side of the screen? Where did this go?

    • Staff
      Brodie | January 4, 2016

      Hi Terry,

This seems to be a recurring issue with 9jumpin users. 9jumpin have yet to release any information on a fix or update, but we’ll be sure to let you know if anything is announced. For now, I would recommend deleting the app and reinstalling it.

I have been trying to retune my TV for the 9HD channels this week.I watched Tracy Grimshaw on tv this week and advice from her was Channel 9 was to have 4 HD stations.
I have tried a number of times, went on the internet and followed the instructions. The last numbered TV station is Number 80. Channels for channel 9 do not come up on my list once returned.
Please advise or send the link to allow me to do this retune. The TV is approx. 3 yrs old and is a 50inch THe TV model No is 50PM600-TD.AAULLH. I am locked in the Bunbury WA area.

      Hi Bob,

You’re not the only one having issues. Unfortunately, 9HD is only available in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin. This wasn’t properly communicated when Channel 9 announced the rollout of their HD channel. Your television must also have an MPEG-4 decoder. A technology that most, but not all, new televisions have.

      Hope that helps,

I can’t play a full episode on my iPad without it crashing and saying it is reloading? Very frustrating. Any solutions?

      Brodie | October 6, 2015

      Hi there Steph,

Unfortunately, this seems to be a recurring issue with the 9jumpin app. There are many possible causes for this problem. If you are using 3G or have an unstable Wi-Fi connection the app could be timing out. I’d also recommend deleting the 9jumpin app and installing it again. However, this app has a history of poor reviews and seems to be generally glitchy. I’d recommend considering another streaming service by comparing them side-by-side.
