After debuting on the court over the NBA All-Star Weekend, the new colourway of the Zoom Kobe 5 Protro sneakers finally has a release date.

Since the death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter in a helicopter crash that killed nine people, Nike has struggled to find the best way to continue its range of Kobe gear. The sportswear giant collaborated with Bryant on a range of sneakers and apparel, all of which sold out shortly after the news the basketball player had died.

Ever since, Nike has been looking for a way to meet fans' demand for more gear, while remaining respectful to his family and his legacy. Now though, it seems that further releases will go ahead, with the appearance of a new Kobe 5 Protro colourway over the NBA All-Star Weekend.

Release date: 1 April (US)

Price: US$180

Where to buy: Sneakersnstuff

Worn by Bryant's teammate Anthony Davis during the NBA All-Star Game, the sneakers arrive in the iconic Lakers colour scheme. The upper sees a crackled purple plastic design interrupted with pops of black outlined in gold.

A snakeskin-like panel appears on the heel, while the Kobe branding appears on the tongue tab in metallic silver. A white midsole, translucent rubber outsole and Lakers-inspired design on the liner complete the style.

An official release date has now been announced, with the pair set to arrive on the Sneakersnstuff site on 1 April (US). We're also hoping to see the colourway drop onto the Australian Nike SNKRS site, though there's no word on that just yet.

If you are hoping to nab yourself a pair, you might want to set a reminder and get online early as we guarantee the pair will be an instant sellout.

The Lakers edition follows the drop of another Kobe 5 Protro model titled "Big Stage Parade". The black, white and gold sneakers are the only pair to be released since Bryant's death and have since sold out online. With the Lakers iteration giving us hope that the Kobe line will continue though, we may see a restock yet.
